The hotel's own shuttle bus took us from the Grand Mercure Roxy to Terminal 1 of the Singapore Changi International Airport without any traffic jams or delays. From there we took an AirAsia Economy Class Airbus A320-200 to Langkawi.

Checking in at the AirAsia counter went smoothly. Unfortunately, we didn't pay attention to our boarding passes and it wasn't until we went through security that we realized we were separated. Christin sat on 25A and I was one place behind on 26A. An exchange on the plane was no longer possible because the plane was fully booked.

When greeting us, the pilot announced a flight time of 1:05 hours. We then took off on time from runway 02C. The cruise flight at an altitude of 36,000 feet was unspectacular. Every now and then I could catch a glimpse of the mainland of Malaysia below us through the thick cloud cover. The seat pitch in AirAsia's Airbus A320-200 is already very small. For short flights it is also possible with a height of 1.83 m. Service is generally only available against payment. In order to get a meal of your choice and save a few euros at the same time, it is worth reserving everything online when booking via the AirAsia website. The prices are moderate.

The landing in Langkawi at around 12:10 p.m. was a bit bumpy. What surprised me was that the pilot had only extended the flaps very slightly. Was that the best decision?

Approaching Langkawi

The advantage of Langkawi's small provincial airport is that all routes can be covered on foot. So we left the A320-200 through the rear left door (2L) and were able to walk directly to the terminal building. According to, Malaysia Airlines is said to have offered a direct flight from London to Langkawi with a Boeing 747 in the early 2000s. How were these many passengers processed on the apron?

Entering Malaysia took what felt like an eternity, even though several counters were occupied. Once again you realize that you are in Asia and that efficiency was not born here. But at some point it was our turn and the passport got a new stamp. After collecting our luggage, we met our chauffeur for The Danna Langkawi in the entrance hall. A great start to our stay in the 5-star hotel.
