Booking, arrival and check-in
As usual, I booked the Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit directly via the Hilton homepage, as this is the only way I can collect points for free nights and use the benefits of my Hilton Diamond status. In addition, the prices on other booking portals were not cheaper.
Since we didn't start until the late afternoon with the Singapore Airlines Regional Business Class When we arrived in Bangkok from Singapore and had to get a rental car, we were only at the hotel in the evening. The check-in was very friendly and without long waiting times. We received a complimentary upgrade from our booked King Deluxe Room to a King Premium Executive Room.
Where is Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok located?
The Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok and its sister hotel behind it, DoubleTree Bangkok Sukhumvit, offer a prime location in the heart of the vibrant metropolis. Nestled in the lively Sukhumvit district with a variety of things to do and see, from trendy shopping malls to vibrant street markets to hip restaurants and bars. In addition, the Phrom Phong BTS Skytrain station is within walking distance of the hotel. If you arrive by car, like us, you can use the hotel's free underground car park.
What are the rooms (King Premium Executive) like at Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok?
The décor of our King Premium Executive Room was a bit older, but still in good condition. The design with the dark wood veneer and a lot of chrome is not quite to our taste. In the entrance area there was a large wardrobe, a shelf for the suitcase and in another cupboard the well-stocked minibar. At the floor-to-ceiling windows at the back of the room there was a light brown leather armchair and a large desk with a comfortable desk chair and two sockets as well as an HDMI port for the TV. Against the wall was the large, cozy bed with a bedside table on each side. Unfortunately, there was only one socket per side of the bed.
The spacious bathroom was separated from the hallway by a sliding door. The rain shower and bathtub were located in an area of the bathroom separated by a glass door. The panoramic window from the shower to the bedroom took some getting used to, but could be closed with a roller blind if desired. The toilet was also separated from the bathroom by a door with frosted glass. However, we found this area to be a bit cramped.
How is the breakfast at Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok?
Breakfast at Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok is served in the Scalini restaurant on the second floor of the hotel. The hotel's restaurant impresses with its modern and elegant industrial design with lots of glass and metal that creates a relaxed atmosphere.
Every morning we were warmly welcomed and guided to our desired place after checking the room number. Depending on the status of the hotel guest, there was a small paper display on the table – but we as Diamond couldn't really see any effect. In addition to coffee specialties, a signature drink was served daily from Panpan to Butterfly Pea.
The food selection was as impressive as it was varied, with an abundance of international and local dishes. From freshly baked croissants and fruit to hearty egg dishes, eggs benedict and various Asian delicacies.
What is the Executive Lounge like at Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok?
Access to the Executive Lounge at Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok is complimentary for Diamond guests. In addition, guests who have booked an Executive Category room have access to the lounge. The lounge is located on the fourth floor and can only be reached via the elevator with an unlocked room card. Like the rooms, the lounge is also very dark. Black marble on the walls, large dark brown leather sofas and a dark wood floor give the flair of an English salon. In addition to the actual lounge area, there are three meeting rooms and also a small outdoor area, which does not offer a nice view, however, as the lounge is located on the fourth floor.
The opening hours of the lounge were contradictorily stated by the hotel. At check-in, it was said that the lounge was already open for breakfast. Finally, we found out that the lounge is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Soft drinks, water and juices are available during opening hours. A fully automatic coffee machine is also available.
In addition to the all-day range of drinks, an afternoon tea is served from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Various delicacies such as scones, tartlets, but also savoury sandwiches are served at the buffet. In addition, the Hilton Sukhumvit invites you to the evening reception in the Executive Lounge daily from 17:00 to 19:00. On the days we were guests, there was always a salad buffet, several small canapés, cheese, a soup and at least two hot dishes. For the hot dishes, for example, you could choose between satay skewers, curries or even European stews. In addition to the food, there was also a wide selection of drinks. Not only the typical soft drinks, but also local beer and various wines were available. In addition, there was a rich selection of good spirits, which the staff were happy to mix into long drinks or cocktails. A delicious non-alcoholic cocktail was also mixed for our son, even though there was none on the menu.
Particularly positive is the friendly and courteous staff in the lounge. It was cleared quickly, proactively asked for drink requests and also, for example, wine was refilled directly at the table.
What does Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok offer for recreation?
The Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit has a gorgeous little rooftop infinity pool. With a handful of comfortable loungers, guests can not only soak up the sun, but also take in the spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding skyscrapers and the vibrant city below. Next to the pool is a bar and a small gym.
