Singapore has fascinated us for many years. We’ve visited this modern metropolis several times before and have always loved the blend of its futuristic skyline, tropical greenery and diverse cultures. This trip, however, was still something special: it was the first time we’d explored Singapore with our son.
Mexico had long appealed to us – sun, culture, joie de vivre, and impressive Mayan ruins. In the summer of 2025, we fulfilled this dream and explored the Yucatán Peninsula independently by rental car. A road trip through Mexico is surprisingly straightforward and safe – perfect for flexibly discovering the highlights of Yucatán, Tulum, Valladolid, and beyond. Fascinating Mayan sites, colorful colonial cities, turquoise seas, and countless unforgettable experiences awaited us.
The Egyptian pyramids are among the most fascinating monuments in human history. While many tourists opt for guided tours, we opted for a more flexible adventure: With a rental car, we explored Giza, Saqqara, Dahshur, and the ancient Egyptian Museum at our own pace. This allowed us to experience the magic of these historic sites away from the crowds. But how practical is such an exploration really? What challenges and highlights awaited us? We share our experiences, tips, and valuable information in this article.
Contrary to the typical routes, our summer holiday this year did not take us to the south, but to the north of Europe. In July, we packed our suitcases and flew to Estonia. This beautiful Baltic country combines Scandinavian and Eastern European culture and lifestyle like no other. The summers are not so hot and the nights are light for longer. Read on to find out how we liked it and what you can experience in the capital Tallinn and the surrounding area.

At the end of October, we were drawn out into the world again. Our first flight since the start of the coronavirus pandemic was via Athens to Crete. I have visited the California metropolis of San Francisco several times, but the city is still worth a visit. Before my departure, I had something to think about due to the strong air pollution caused by the forest fires in the immediate vicinity (November 2018). You can find out whether my worries were justified and which sights in San Francisco I saw on the short trip in the following travel report.
After an eventful time in Toronto, we set off in the early afternoon for one of North America's greatest natural wonders – Niagara Falls. Although the journey is only about 130 kilometers, it took us almost two hours. Heavy Sunday traffic and the upcoming Victoria Day – a Canadian holiday – made the roads very busy.
Our day in Toronto began with bad weather, as the forecast had predicted. The view out the window showed low-hanging clouds, rain, and wind—not ideal conditions for exploring the city. We spontaneously changed our plans and decided to spend the day indoors.
On our road trip through the Midwest of the USA, a stop in Detroit, the "Motor City", was of course a must. Detroit is a city full of contrasts that fascinates with its lively art scene, historic architecture and exciting history. Just around the corner is Ann Arbor, a charming university town with cosy cafés, independent bookshops and green parks.
Our journey continues through Michigan's picturesque landscapes, from the charming seaside town of Traverse City to the cultural and culinary treasures of Frankenmuth and the shopping opportunities of Birch Run. Experience the incredible diversity of this region, from the gentle waves of Lake Michigan to the German half-timbered houses and vibrant outlet centres. Join us on our amazing road trip through the breathtaking Great Lakes State!
Our second day in Traverse City got off to a very leisurely start and we didn't set off on our tour until around 10.00 am. We drove to the Old Mission Peninsula, a headland that juts out into Grand Travers Bay.
In the second part of our road trip through the American Midwest, we continued north into Michigan. Our destination for the day was the Sleeping Bear Dunes near Traverse City, also known as the "Cherry Capital." This leg of our journey was very special to us, as we have very personal memories associated with this region.
