DoubleTree by Hilton Krakau

DoubleTree by Hilton Krakau Hotel & Convention Center

For our first vacation since the pandemic began, we decided to travel by car. We felt that the situation was just too unsafe for air travel. The decision to go to southern Poland was made very quickly, partly because of the low incidence values. We chose the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow as the starting point for our trips and were curious to see what the four-star hotel offered in this situation.

Arrival and check in

Due to quite long drive from Germany to Krakow we decided to stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Wrocław (Here you can find our hotel rating). Since the streets were quite crowded and we also made a short stopover in the Silesian town of Gleiwitz, we only arrived in Kraków in the late afternoon.

Check-in in the light-flooded lobby of the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow was quick and friendly. As a Hilton Honors Diamond Status guest, we were upgraded from our booked King Guest Room to a King Executive Room with lounge access. Unfortunately, apart from the fact that this room is on the 5th floor and therefore on the same floor as the lounge, the rooms are not different according to the hotel description.

Where is the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow located?

Hotel DoubleTree by Hilton Kraków is located on the outskirts of the city, close to the Tauron Arena event center and the Trade and Exhibition Center. There is a shopping center opposite the hotel, however during our stay in July 2021 it seemed like a deserted place and only housed a supermarket. But there were enough parking spaces. The hotel also offers over 100 private parking spaces, which cost 25 PLN (approx. 5 EUR) per night.

What are the rooms like (King Executive) at DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow?

Our room (room number 542) was right next to the elevators and across from the Executive Lounge. However, my fears were unfounded and despite the location, there was little noise due to the hotel's low occupancy.

The layout of our room was typical for a hotel. The large bathroom with a walk-in shower was located directly after the entrance area on the left-hand side. The living and sleeping area consisted of a king size bed, a sofa and a desk. After converting the sofa into a sleeper sofa for our son, space was limited and there was limited use of the desk. There was also an empty fridge and a coffee station in the cabinet under the TV. Unfortunately, the TV had no German programs.

In our room we found a letter from the hotel manager, two bottles of wine, a bottle of orange juice for our son and three plates of chocolates as a welcome gift.

How is breakfast at DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow?

Breakfast is served in the 5th Avenue restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel and is 4* standard in quality and variety. As a Hilton status guest, breakfast was complimentary for us as a family. Likewise, certain tables that were a little off the beaten track and therefore in the quieter area were reserved for status guests.

In addition to a buffet with cold dishes such as salad, sausage and fish, there are various sweet baked goods and hot dishes. Fresh egg dishes can be prepared by a chef on request.

What is the Executive Lounge like at DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow?

As a status and hotel guest in a room on the Executive Floor, we had access to the Executive Lounge at the DoubleTree by Hilton Kraków. The lounge is open from 7am to 8pm. During opening hours there was a selection of soft drinks, coffee and tea. In addition, various biscuits, fruit and nibbles were offered at the buffet.

Hot food and alcoholic beverages were also offered during the pleasantly long happy hour from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The choice was always between a soup of the day, a warm dish and a salad or snack buffet. There was also a variety of desserts and sliced fruit. Overall, we were very happy with what was on offer in the Executive Lounge at DoubleTree Kraków.

What does the DoubleTree by Hilton Kraków offer for recreation?

Since our son is an absolute water rat, we made extensive use of the hotel's pool and sauna area, which was available to us free of charge. However, access was not always unrestricted due to corona prevention.

In addition to a 25 meter pool, there was a hot water area and a jacuzzi. The sauna area consisted of a steam sauna and two Finnish saunas. It was just a pity that the acoustics of the spa area was a bit unfavorable, so that unfortunately you could always hear the loud noises from the swimming area in the sauna.

Summary

The DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow really surprised us in a positive way. The rooms are good, the offer in the Executive Lounge left nothing to be desired and the large pool and spa area will remain in our memory.
