A Saturday morning in Thessaloniki

Sonnenaufgang in Thessaloniki

The night in Hotel Aegeon wasn't really relaxing. Since our room faced the main street, it was never really quiet. The bad beds and the temperature in the small room did the rest. So we got up at 7 a.m. Just in time to photograph the sunrise over Thessaloniki from the balcony.

Since breakfast was also included in the room rate, we wanted to give it another chance. Unfortunately we were bitterly disappointed. The coffee was undrinkable and the only edible items were a banana and a piece of cake. We hoped to catch up on breakfast later in the lounge at the airport.

Sightseeing (Promenade, Aristoteles Platz & Weißer Turm)

We use the remaining time in Thessaloniki for sightseeing and geocaching. On the way to the promenade we notice some of the houses in a desolate condition. There are a couple of nice and renovated hotels and apartments just by the water. After some searching I found our first cache in Greece at Aristoteles Platz. A great stat point. Our sightseeing tour then took us to the famous monument, the White Tower.

Thessaloniki weekly market

By chance we found a weekly market on our way back to the hotel. There was fresh fish, meat and other Greek specialties such as a complete sheep's head.

Bus to Thessaloniki Airport

After checking out of the hotel, we took the 78 express bus to the airport around 11am. The journey took about 35 minutes and was really cheap at 2€.
