SAS Go Economy Class on the Airbus A340-300 to Copenhagen

With the SAS Go Economy Class in the Airbus A340-300, the successful mileage run ends with the return to Europe. In my trip report you will find out that the service during the night flight is again with SAS.

At the end of my mileage run to San Juan, there is a hearty breakfast at the hotel today. Then I take the hotel shuttle to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center to see one of the most beautiful aircraft museums in the world to look at

It's early afternoon when I drive to the airport. When I arrive in the departure hall, all I have to do is look for the SAS counter and hand in my suitcase. I checked into the hotel in the morning. The rush is limited. With the boarding cards in hand, it's back through security and an endlessly long tunnel into the midfield terminal to the gate. I still have a good two hours until my flight to Copenhagen.

I stop by Duty Free again and then treat myself to a burger and beer for the last time. After dinner, I put my feet up at another gate and see which planes are being handled that afternoon. Unfortunately, the status is not yet sufficient for a lounge. The weather that day is miserable, but my flight takes off on time.

With the Airbus A340-300 (registration OY-KBM “Astrid Viking”) from the outward flight, it’s a smooth and pleasant journey to Copenhagen. Dinner was eventually served over Newfoundland and, like on the outbound flight, is very delicious.

Several films and Tetris games later, coupled with a round of sleep, breakfast is served. That was miserable, only the coffee was wholesome. When we reach the Danish North Sea coast, the descent to Copenhagen begins, where we touch down at seven o'clock local time.

A little off track from the short night, I walk on to the next gate, where the “Dygve Viking”, a Boeing 737-800, takes me to Stockholm in an hour's flight time. After landing, all I have to do is get my suitcase and check myself in again for my flight home to Berlin. But the only thing missing is my suitcase.

When it becomes clear that he won't come again, I get a waiting number from SAS. But before it's my turn, status guests are taken care of. It's a shame for me, but it's still good to see that the privileges that are promised are being kept.

With only my hand luggage and lost report in tow, I walk back to check-in. For the flight home I reserve a seat by the emergency exit. But I still have seven hours to go to Berlin. I have a hearty breakfast at the airport and then look around for a quiet spot. The Rimowa Cabin Trolley is also an excellent pillow. I spend the rest of the time reading a book and watching other planes being processed.

Even seven hours go by at some point. A Boeing 737-700, SE-REX, “Lodin Viking” takes me to Berlin. I sit comfortably in the exit row and finally land back in Berlin at 6:55 p.m. A spontaneous trip comes to an end.

Summary

The seat in SAS Go is quite comfortable, only the entertainment system needs an urgent overhaul (which has already happened). The food is good, the crew nice. If you travel with SAS, you get good value for money.

Robert

Hi, I'm Robert and I've been infected by the flying virus since my first flight in 1993, in a Tupolev Tu-154. Chances of recovery are zero. Since I've been dealing with mileage programs even more intensively and am Topbonus Platinum and Star Alliance Gold, everything has gotten much worse. :-) Luckily for me, I have a very understanding family who are happy to share my passion with me and benefit from it. In the summer of 2015 we moved from Berlin to near Munich and now also have a great and above all functioning airport right on our doorstep. So there will be many more exciting trips and pictures, nice that you are there!
