Arrival and check-in
Nachdem wir die vergangenen Tage in Ras Al Khaimah verbracht hatten, fuhren wir am frühen Nachmittag nach Marjan Island. Die Zufahrt zu dieser künstlichen Halbinsel wurde durch eine Schranke kontrolliert, die jedoch offen war. Als wir uns mit dem Auto der Hotelanlage näherten, waren wir von der Größe überrascht. Normalerweise wählen wir kleine bis mittelgroße Hotels, aber das DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island hatten wir wegen seines 600 Meter langen Privatstrandes gewählt.
When I entered the lobby, I was shocked by the number of people. Various tour groups were waiting for their check-in or their bus to leave. Luckily, thanks to my Hilton Honors Gold status, I didn't have to join the long line at the front desk. Instead, I was allowed to sit at an extra desk. The staff member guided me through the check-in process in a very professional and friendly manner. In addition to delicious warm cookies from Double Tree, we were upgraded from our booked room with a king-size bed to a room in the more exclusive Bay Club Villas.
Wie sind die Zimmer (Bay Club Zimmer) im DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island?
Our Bay Club room had two queen beds, a sitting area and a table with two chairs. The décor was a colorful but tasteful mix of oriental and modern styles. Many elements were clad in light wood, mainly oak, and the colors yellow and blue dominated.
In the hallway there was a large enough closet with a safe. In addition to valuables, we were also able to store our laptop in it.
The bathroom was very spacious to our delight. There was a bath and shower. However, there were too few opportunities to hang something.
Since our room was on the ground floor, we also had our own small terrace with a sea view.
The Wi-Fi in the room was free for us as Hilton status guests. Otherwise, it would have cost AED 30 per day. However, in the public areas and thus also on the beach, the Wi-Fi was free.

Bei der Buchung des DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island hatten wir die Wahl zwischen Übernachtung mit Frühstück, Halbpension oder All Inclusive. Nach reiflicher Überlegung entschieden wir uns für Halbpension.
Breakfast and dinner were offered at the exclusive Bay Club Restaurant. But since this was connected to the main restaurant and there was no real control, the separation made little sense for us. But we never had a problem finding a place for the three of us in the big restaurant. We especially liked the great design with the different tables and table sizes. However, the background noise was like in a canteen. Perhaps room dividers or sound-absorbing elements could help here.
The offer of the buffet was very good both for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast, there were, among other things, several omelette and egg dish stations. But also a wide selection of desserts and salads. At dinner, themed evenings provided variety at the buffet.
Drinks (coffee, water or juice) were included with breakfast. At dinner, we had to pay for the table drinks as half-board guests. For a 1.5 liter bottle of water we paid 18 AED (about 4 EUR).

The hotel complex was very spacious and strongly geared towards families with children. So our son was happy about the large playground or the children's pool. In addition, there was a large water fun pirate ship, but our son did not dare to go on it at 1 3/4 years old.
The highlight was the long sandy beach right in front of our terrace. Umbrellas and sunbeds were included. However, one noticed the clear proportion of package tourists who had to occupy their lounger with a towel early in the morning. We didn't let such actions stop us and removed them in search of a shady spot. This often led to amusing discussions about ownership and ownership claims! We had our fun!
The hotel complex also included several pools, from which unfortunately loud Ballermann music boomed. A special pool was reserved only for the guests of the Bay Club, where it was fortunately quiet. Unfortunately, it must also be said that package tourists have no place for us in a 5-star hotel. The behavior and behavior of some guests was just not appropriate.

Summary
Das DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island ist ein tolles, aber etwas zu großes, Hotel. Das Upgrade in die Bay Club-Villas hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt. Besonders gefallen hat uns, aber vor allem unseren Sohn, der private Sandstrand. Das gesamte Personal war stets freundlich und hilfsbereit. Mit den verschiedenen Pauschalprodukten hat sich das Hotel aber in unseren Augen keinen besonderen Gefallen getan. Touristen mit Plastikarmbändchen und Fünf Sterne Hotel schließen sich für uns irgendwie aus.
