Travel blog for families & couples – airline, hotel & lounge reviews
Welcome to miles-around, the German-language travel blog for couples and families! We share first-hand experiences from flights in First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class – with airlines like Turkish Airlines, Condor and SWISS – reviewing cabins on short- and long-haul routes. We also feature over 50 lounge reviews from around the world, from Priority Pass lounges to exclusive airline lounges at airports like Frankfurt, Istanbul and Singapore. Our hotel reviews cover everything from four-star city hotels to five-star luxury resorts, always based on personal stays rather than press material. We have explored destinations like Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, the USA and Egypt ourselves, sharing what truly matters – whether travelling as a family, as a couple or on business.
We have personally tested cabins on over 20 airlines – from First Class on long-haul flights to Economy Class on short-haul routes. In our trip reports we show what seat comfort, cabin service and catering are really like.
After arriving from Singapore, we reached the SWISS Senator Lounge at 6:30 a.m. Luckily, there was no waiting list for the showers, which are located in the Business Lounge. After a refreshing shower, we changed out of our comfortable jogging pants and quickly brushed our teeth. Now we were perfectly ready for […]
For our return flight in SWISS Economy Class Airbus A340-300 from Singapore to Zurich, I only wrote a short trip report. Details about the aircraft cabin and the seats in SWISS Economy Class can be found in the trip report of the outbound flight.
After checking out of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur, we took the LRT and the KLIA Express to the international airport. The journey took a total of one hour, including a short wait at KL Sentral. We flew to Singapore with an airline that was new to me – Jetstar Asia Economy Class.
Langkawi Airport is a typical small tourist airport. The routes are short, and the lines, at least on this Saturday, weren't long either. We flew to Kuala Lumpur on a Malaysia Airlines Economy Class Boeing 737-800.
The hotel's own shuttle bus took us from the Grand Mercure Roxy to Terminal 1 of Singapore Changi International Airport without any traffic jams or delays. From there, we travelled to Langkawi on an AirAsia Economy Class Airbus A320-200.
From city hotels in Singapore to resorts in Mexico: we review hotels based on personal experience – honest, detailed and without the marketing gloss. So that couples and families know exactly what to expect.
As HHonors Gold members, we had three Hilton hotels to choose from for our stay in Kuala Lumpur. We chose the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur due to its good value and central location. Read our review to find out what our impressions of the hotel were.
Our second hotel on the island of Langkawi was the Berjaya Langkawi Resort. Upon our arrival at 2 p.m., our room, or rather the Rainforest Chalet we had booked, was not yet ready. The reception process was very unprofessional for a 4-star hotel and took forever. Perhaps we were simply unlucky with the staff.
After landing on the dream island of Langkawi, we were met at the airport by our personal shuttle service from The Danna Langkawi hotel. They took our luggage and escorted us to the car. During the ride, we were offered drinks and a cool towel to freshen up. Even though our journey from Singapore wasn't that long, something refreshing is always nice in this heat.
For our stay in Singapore, we had reserved a room at the Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy for three nights. After arriving at the airport, we went to the Ground Transportation desk on the arrivals level. There, we received information about the departure time and location of the free hotel shuttle. Unfortunately, we missed the bus by 10 minutes and had to wait another 50 minutes.
Finally, the time had come! It was time to check into our suite at the Tower Club at lebua Hotel. Read our review to find out how we liked this luxury hotel in the heart of Bangkok.
With over 50 airport lounges tested worldwide, we are one of the most widely read German-language lounge blogs. Whether Priority Pass, Business Class lounge or exclusive airline lounge – we have been there.
With the SAS Gold Lounge Oslo, SAS Scandinavian Airlines has created a space for working, relaxing, and enjoying your travels. Find out how we enjoyed our stay in our lounge review.
Air Canada's Maple Leaf Lounge network comprises over 20 lounges worldwide. Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is home to three of these, one serving domestic gates, one serving transborder (i.e. flights to the US) and one serving international gates. We visited the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge Toronto International in January 2017 before flying to London with Air Canada.
United Airlines lounges haven't exactly been known for their amenities and food and beverage offerings in the past. However, since the introduction of the new "Polaris" Business Class, United Clubs have been renovated and service improvements have been made. The United Club Seattle was one of the first lounges to be redesigned. You can read more about our stay in January 2017 in our review.
We often spend our waiting time in the Lufthansa Senator Lounge A-Gates Frankfurt. The lounge is very busy, especially during the week, so we have never managed to take photos for a review until now. When we returned from Barcelona on a Saturday evening, we were almost the only guests, so I took the opportunity to have a closer look around.
Katowice Airport is Poland's third-largest airport in terms of passengers. Lufthansa currently offers a total of 21 flights per week. This means the number of passengers is too small for a dedicated airport lounge, so passengers use the contract lounge in Terminal B. Find out in our review that a visit to the Business Lounge at Katowice Airport is still worthwhile.
Whether Asia, the Americas, Europe or Africa – we report from destinations we have explored ourselves. Along the way we share practical tips for families and couples who want to see more than the usual tourist trails.
From our hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur, the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) with the 452-meter-high Petronas Towers (Malaysian: Menara Petronas) is just one stop away. The short ride costs a mere 1 MYR (0.25 EUR) per person. Our goal for the late afternoon: to get tickets for tomorrow's Petronas Towers […]
The Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden (Taman Orkid) boasts around 800 orchid species, some of them rare. The garden is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm. We took the LRT (Light Rail) to Pasar Sein station and walked across the station and along several streets towards Perdana Botanical Garden. The orchid garden (Taman Orkid) is situated on a small […]
Langkawi has several beaches, mainly located in the south, west, and north of the island. Although many hotels are located right up to the beach, by law, every beach is public. In the following article, we'll show you the most beautiful beaches on Langkawi.
Langkawi has a lot to offer in terms of food. From traditional Malaysian dishes to international cuisine, and even the usual fast-food chains like McDonald's, Subway, Starbucks, and KFC, you can find it all here. Hunger led us to Cenang every evening because it was simply the shortest route. Indian Palace (Cenang, Langkawi) The Indian Palace is located directly […]
We actually only drove up to the 890-meter-high Gunung Raya because of a geocache of the "Earthcache" type. Gunung Raya is the highest mountain on the Malaysian island of Langkawi. Even the 20-minute drive up the winding road offered all sorts of attractions along the roadside: cows, monkeys, iguanas, and the lush green jungle on either side. Truly amazing!
