I only wrote a short travel report for our return flight in the SWISS Economy Class Airbus A340-300 from Singapore to Zurich. Details about the aircraft cabin and the seats in SWISS Economy Class can be found in the trip report for the outbound flight.
SWISS offers its guests early check-in from 4 p.m. at Singapore Airport (Terminal 2). After our arrival with Jetstar Asia from Kuala Lumpur This came in handy for us. We already thought that we would have to wait for our luggage up to 3 hours before departure at 10:55 pm. What a service! But there is also luggage storage in every terminal at Singapore Airport. Here you can safely store your luggage for a small fee. When we had our boarding passes printed, I repeatedly asked for an upgrade to business class. But as I had already seen on the Internet, it was fully booked. So we fly back to Europe in economy.
We briefly considered whether it would be worth driving to downtown Singapore. However, we decided against it, as the net time would be too short. So we went through passport control and looked for a lounge. Since Lufthansa and SWISS do not operate their own lounges, we were only left with the Krisflyer Gold Lounge from Singapore Airlines. Only Star Alliance Gold members have access here. Singapore Airlines also offers a separate lounge especially for Business and First Class guests.
Krisflyer Gold Lounge - Singapore Airport
The Krisflyer Gold Lounge is not exactly a ray of hope. There is neither daylight, nor a lounge-owned toilet or shower. The only highlight is the food and a tap with Tiger beer. It is also positive that there is very frequent clearing and therefore there are not too many dishes and glasses standing around. The free Wi-Fi is sufficiently fast, but performs a forced logout once an hour. Conclusion: In our personal lounge ranking, this one doesn't really do well. I would almost say that we have a new taillight.
Flight SWISS LX 179 to Zurich
Shortly after 10 p.m. we left the lounge. The walk to Gate E5 was only five minutes and we were there on time for boarding. The Airbus A340-300 (registration HB-JMM) was fully occupied, at least in Economy Class. After a little mess with the seats and the disembarkation of two passengers, boarding could finally be completed at 11 p.m. We had seats 25 J and K, which are in the first economy compartment. The seats here are usually a bit quieter, which is especially advantageous on a night flight.
After a ten-minute delay in take-off, we had to fly a major detour due to a thunderstorm over Kuala Lumpur. As a result, our planned arrival time in Zurich was already delayed by 35 minutes. After we had flown around the thunderstorm over a wide area, the flight attendants began to serve dinner. From the menu cards handed out, we chose the cheese ravioli with tomato cream sauce and black olives. There was smoked salmon with cucumber salad and chocolate mousse for dessert. The ravioli were very warm and tasty. Then we went to sleep and woke up just before Istanbul.
The breakfast offered, cheese omelette with bacon, country fries and grilled tomatoes, was not so tasty. A roll with jam and yoghurt with fresh fruit salad was enough for us. The landing in Zurich was almost punctual at 06:09 a.m. despite the detour via Malaysia. At this point I would like to give a big compliment to the Maitre de Cabine and her crew. She was in a great mood even after a 12-hour flight and you could tell that she really loves her job.
At 06.15 a.m. we arrived at gate E56. We hurried to get out of the car to make it to the SWISS Senator Lounge for a refreshing shower.
