Munich Airport is Germany's second-largest airport. It has two parallel runways (South 26L/08R and North 26R/08L), which are used for takeoffs and landings depending on the wind direction. Due to the relatively large distance between the two runways, changing position during planespotting is often difficult. Typically, aircraft heading south or east are handled on the south runway.
Even though we didn't start our autumn break by plane for personal reasons, a visit to the airport was a must during our layover in Munich. Together with Robert from airfurt.net, we visited various spotting locations on a Sunday afternoon.
Planespotting MUC Photo Position 1: P81 Holiday Parking Garage
From the top deck of the P81 holiday parking garage at the air freight terminal, there is a magnificent view of the southern runway and the aircraft flying past on the taxiway. Cars can be parked either inside the garage (for a fee) or on the shoulder of the road in front (free for 2 hours).

Planespotting MUC Photo Position 2: South Viewing Hill
The southern viewing hill is located on the ED30 between Schwaig and Hallbergmoos. We didn't climb the hill, but instead crossed a small bridge to the fence and the gate for emergency vehicles. From here, you have a good view of the aircraft landing and taking off on runway 26L. Photography is possible here almost all day long, as the sun is at your back.

Planespotting MUC Photo Position 3: North Viewing Hill
There's also a viewing hill at our third position. From this spot, you're significantly closer to the runway. We were lucky, because on that day the planes were taking off and landing to the east.
