For our first vacation since the beginning of the pandemic, we decided to travel by car. We felt the situation was simply too uncertain for air travel. The decision quickly fell on southern Poland, partly due to the low incidence rates. We chose the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow as our base for our trip and were curious to see what the four-star hotel offered in this situation.

Arrival and check-in
Due to the rather long journey from Germany to Krakow, we decided to stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Wrocław (Here you can find our hotel reviewSince the roads were quite crowded and we also made a short stop in the Silesian town of Gliwice, we didn't arrive in Krakow until late afternoon.

Check-in in the light-filled lobby of the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow was quick and friendly. As Hilton Honors Diamond members, we received an upgrade from our booked King Guest Room to a King Executive Room with lounge access. Aside from the fact that this room is located on the 5th floor, the same level as the lounge, the rooms are unfortunately identical according to the hotel description.

Where is the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow located?
The DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow is located on the outskirts of the city, near the Tauron Arena convention center and the trade and exhibition center. Opposite the hotel is a shopping mall, but during our stay in July 2021 it seemed deserted, housing only a supermarket. However, there was ample parking available. The hotel also offers over 100 of its own parking spaces, which cost 25 PLN (approximately 5 EUR) per night.

What are the rooms (King Executive) like at the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow?
Our room (room number 542) was located right next to the elevators and opposite the Executive Lounge. However, my fears were unfounded, and despite the location, there was hardly any noise due to the hotel's low occupancy.
The layout of our room was typical for a hotel. Immediately to the left of the entrance was the large bathroom with a walk-in shower. The combined living and sleeping area consisted of a king-size bed, a sofa, and a desk. After converting the sofa into a sofa bed for our son, space was limited, and the desk was only partially usable. There was also an empty refrigerator and a coffee station in the cabinet under the television. Unfortunately, the television didn't have any German-language channels.

In our room we found a letter from the hotel manager, two bottles of wine, a bottle of orange juice for our son, and three plates of chocolates as a welcome gift.

What is the breakfast like at the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow?
Breakfast is served in the 5th Avenue restaurant on the hotel's ground floor and meets 4-star standards in terms of quality and selection. As Hilton Honors members, breakfast was complimentary for our family. Certain tables, located slightly away from the main dining area and therefore in a quieter section, were also reserved for our members.

In addition to a buffet with cold dishes such as salad, sausage, and fish, there are various sweet pastries and hot dishes. Fresh egg dishes are prepared by a chef upon request.
What is the Executive Lounge like at the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow?
As status guests staying in a room on the Executive Floor, we had access to the Executive Lounge at the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow. The lounge is open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. During opening hours, a selection of soft drinks, coffee, and tea was available. Additionally, a buffet offered various cookies, fruit, and snacks.

During the pleasantly long happy hour from 5 pm to 8 pm, hot food and alcoholic beverages were also offered. The selection always included a soup of the day, a hot dish, and a salad or snack buffet. In addition, there were various desserts and sliced fruit. Overall, we were very satisfied with the offerings in the Executive Lounge of the DoubleTree Krakow.

What does the DoubleTree by Hilton Krakow offer for relaxation?
Since our son is a real water baby, we made extensive use of the hotel's pool and sauna area, which was available to us free of charge. However, access was not always unrestricted due to COVID-19 prevention measures.

In addition to a 25-meter pool, there was a warm water area and a whirlpool. The sauna area consisted of a steam room and two Finnish saunas. The only downside was the somewhat poor acoustics in the spa area, which unfortunately meant that the loud noises from the swimming area were always audible in the sauna.
