The introduction of the new Turkish Airlines Business Class Boeing 787-9 was heavily advertised by the airline and caused a lot of hype even before its launch. When I booked this flight to Kuala Lumpur, my anticipation was also immeasurable. You can find out whether my expectations were fulfilled in the following detailed trip report.
How did we book our flight?
As already mentioned in the previous Trip Report as mentioned above, this leg of the journey is an award flight in Turkish Airlines Business Class Boeing 787-9 from Berlin to Kuala Lumpur. I booked the flight award via Miles & More. We spent 71,000 miles for each person on this flight. That's a total of 213,000 miles and taxes and fees totalling EUR 1,100.

How did we earn so many miles with Miles & More? Quite simply: we used the Miles & More credit card! We had a lot of bills to pay during the construction of our house, some of which were high. We paid these mainly via Neobank Revolut, where we were able to pay with our credit card free of charge and thus earn valuable miles.

What is the cabin and seat like in the Turkish Airlines Business Class Boeing 787-9?
The first impression of the cabin of the Turkish Airlines Business Class Boeing 787-9 is consistently positive. The predominant grey/anthracite tones make it look modern and elegant. The 30 seats are arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration and therefore all offer unrestricted access to the aisle. The seats are staggered from row to row. In the even rows, the seats on both sides of the window are directly next to the window, while in the odd rows they face the aisle. The staggered arrangement continues in the centre seats. For more privacy, a partition can be raised between the adjacent seats in the centre.

The seats are from STELIA Aerospace and offer a high degree of privacy thanks to the very high construction of the side walls. The dominant colour of the seats and panelling is anthracite. The privacy screen is covered with light grey Alcantara as a contrast and unfortunately obscures the view out of the window on the window seats. Curved seams in yellow gold round off the overall look. The seat itself is upholstered in a dark grey fabric/leather mix.

I thought it was very positive how tidy the seat looked, because in addition to a large storage area, there was only a small storage compartment that could be closed and locked with a sliding door. This storage compartment contained the universal power connection, a USB port and, when boarding, the headphones and amenity kit. The amenity kit comes from the Italian company Salvatore Ferragamo and is available in the colours red for women and light blue for men. Right next to the small storage compartment there is also a small, pull-out make-up mirror and a hook for hanging headphones. Both the interior and the area in front of the storage compartment can be illuminated.

A personal reading light was also integrated into the light grey Alcantara-covered privacy screen. Three LEDs could be controlled separately via three buttons to ensure optimum individual illumination in every seating position.

The table is located under the large screen and can be pulled out and folded out. When folded out, it is large and stable enough for eating and working. Although the table can be moved, it is not possible to stand up when it is unfolded.

The touch-sensitive controls for the seat and lighting are located on the edge of the storage surface facing the seat. The seat can be moved to various predefined positions by pressing the buttons. The remote control for controlling the in-flight entertainment is located underneath. This has a touch-sensitive monitor that can also display films or the flight route, for example.

After dinner, I made my bed. Turkish Airlines distributes a thin mattress topper, a large, comfortable pillow and a cosy blanket in Business Class. The bed is loud Turkish Airlines Website 193 cm long. Unfortunately, I still didn't sleep really well, which was due to several things:
- Despite the bed's stated length of 193 cm, my height of 183 cm meant that both my head and my feet hit the seat panelling.
- Although it was possible to lower the armrests and thus widen the support surface, I still felt very cramped as a side sleeper.
- And the last point of criticism is the extremely narrow footwell, the edge of which I kept bumping into.

What is there to eat & drink in Turkish Airlines Business Class Boeing 787-9?
After boarding, the stewardess responsible for us introduced herself and served us a welcome drink. There was a choice of two homemade lemonades: Lemon Mint or Raspberry. Both are highly recommended. She also handed me two large menu cards from the caterer DO&CO. One card listed the food and non-alcoholic drinks, while the second card only listed the wine, sparkling wine and spirits on offer. The selection of non-alcoholic drinks was very large. In addition to eight hot drinks, from black tea to Turkish coffee, there were many different juices and soft drinks, even mocktails and homemade detox juices.

Turkish Airlines usually has a chef on board for Business Class on long-haul flights. Before take-off, the cook recorded our meal requests for the upcoming dinner. The drink requests for after take-off were also noted down. I was always addressed by my name, which gave the service a personal touch. I opted for champagne from Taittinger after the start. I was also served a warm nut mix.

Dinner began with a bread service. This was served with soft butter, a mixture of herbs and olive oil. I particularly liked the fact that the table was set with a cloth tablecloth and a small electric tea light. This immediately created a great atmosphere.

The starters were served from the trolley. We had the following choices on our flight: Mozzarella with cherry tomatoes, smoked wild salmon, prawns with cocktail sauce, chickpea ragout with yoghurt, beetroot with almonds, Turkish flatbread with minced meat, roast beef salad and cucumber and tomato salad with feta. I had the chef serve me a little of everything on a plate. It was accompanied by a creamy pea soup. I was very impressed with the flavour and quality of all the starters. It was also impressive that I was able to put together my own menu. I had previously only experienced a service like this in the Lufthansa First Class.

There were three main courses to choose from: Lamb chops and Adana kebab with grilled aubergine puree and tomato rice, grilled sea bass and homemade ricotta mezzelune. I opted for the meat dish and paired it with a 2018 Chateau Lamothe Pontac red wine.

I was actually already full after the delicious starter and main course, but as they say, there's always room for dessert. This was again served from the trolley and you could put together your own creation. I opted for apricot crêpes with warm chocolate sauce and ice cream.

Before landing in Kuala Lumpur, we were served salad with chicken breast and mustard dressing. This was accompanied by Köpoğlu, a Turkish-style fried aubergine with slow-roasted tomato sauce and yoghurt.

How is the in-flight entertainment in the Turkish Airlines Business Class Boeing 787-9?
