Aegean Airlines Business Class on the Airbus A320 to Thessaloniki

Aegean Airlines Business Class

To kick off my short segment run for Aegean Miles & Bonus Gold, I flew this year in the Aegean Airlines Business Class on the Airbus A320-200 from Hanover to Thessaloniki. I had booked a cheap Economy Class ticket and then upgraded to Business Class using a voucher. Find out in the trip report whether the upgrade was worth it.

How did we book our flight?

Since I traveled primarily with Lufthansa in Europe for work this year, I had to rethink how to accumulate the necessary miles or flight segments to renew my frequent flyer status with Aegean Airlines. After much trial and error, I finally found a combination that allowed me to complete the required four flights with Aegean Airlines without an overnight stay in Greece:

I flew from Hanover shortly after midnight, via Thessaloniki to Heraklion in Crete, and in the afternoon returned to Hanover via Athens. I booked the flight very easily through the airline's official website.

Since the Airbus A320-200 from Thessaloniki arrived in Hanover on time, boarding began 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, booking class and frequent flyer status weren't taken into account during the boarding process. However, since I was seated in 1A and had no hand luggage except for a small backpack, I dutifully joined the queue.

What is the cabin and seat like in Aegean Airlines Business Class on the Airbus A320?

As with most intra-European flights, Aegean's Business Class on the Airbus A320-200 consists of the same cabin as Economy Class. The only difference is that with three seats per side, the middle seat always remains empty. A small table is installed there instead. On my flight to Thessaloniki, only the first two rows were Business Class and separated from the rest of the cabin by a curtain. Legroom on Aegean is ample, not just in the first row.

There's nothing particularly noteworthy to report about the seat. It's upholstered in dark blue leather and the backrest is adjustable, as is standard in the industry. It was sufficiently comfortable for flights of up to three hours.

What is available to eat and drink in Aegean Airlines Business Class?

Immediately after the seatbelt signs were switched off, the flight attendants closed the curtain to economy class and began preparations for service. According to the menu, which was handed to me along with the welcome drink, I had a choice of two main courses: chicken with Greek pasta or fish with mashed potatoes. I opted for chicken. This was accompanied by a quinoa salad with smoked chicken, a selection of cheeses, and Greek pudding for dessert. On the purser's recommendation, I ordered a Greek white wine from the Peloponnese and a mineral water to accompany my meal.

What is the in-flight entertainment like in Aegean Airlines Business Class?

The Airbus A320 was equipped with ceiling monitors, but the display was barely visible. Normally, most of Aegean Airlines' fleet offers in-flight entertainment via Wi-Fi and the Aegean app. But for some reason, the Wi-Fi wasn't working.

Aegean Airlines' Business Class once again proved to be a solid product on my flight to Thessaloniki. The service and the selection of food and drinks were very good. Unfortunately, as is common in Europe, the cabin itself didn't quite convey a true Business Class feel.
