I have visited the California metropolis of San Francisco several times, but the city is still worth a visit. Before my departure, I had something to think about due to the strong air pollution caused by the forest fires in the immediate vicinity (November 2018). On our road trip through the Midwest of the USA, a stop in Detroit, the "Motor City", was of course a must. Detroit is a city full of contrasts that fascinates with its lively art scene, historic architecture and exciting history. Just around the corner is Ann Arbor, a charming university town with cosy cafés, independent bookshops and green parks.

Our second day in Traverse City got off to a very leisurely start and we didn't set off on our tour until around 10.00 am. We drove to the Old Mission Peninsula, a headland that juts out into Grand Travers Bay.
In the second part of our road trip through the Midwest of the USA, we travelled further north into Michigan. Our destination for the day was the Sleeping Bear Dunes, which are located near the "Cherry Capital" of Traverse City. This place has a special meaning for me. After two eventful days in Chicago, we now start our road trip through the Midwest of the USA. Our first destination was the city of Cadillac in the state of Michigan. On the way we visited the biggest tulip festival in Holland. What else we visited, you will find out in the following article.
The day before, the CityPASS was definitely worth it and we had a lot of fun. On our second day in Chicago, we visited the natural history museum "The Field Museum", the Adler Planetarium, went to the top of Chicago's tallest building and ended the day in Millennium Park.

For years, a trip to Everett has been one of our highlights when traveling in Seattle. Just about 50 kilometers north of the city lies the massive Boeing factory right next to Paine Field Airport – a must-see for all aircraft fans. Giants like the Boeing 747, 767, 777, and 787 are manufactured here. And it was here in January 2017 that we spent an exciting day among the factory halls, runways, and all sorts of aircraft action.
Seattle in January 2017: It was cold, but the city had plenty to offer! To explore the city in a relaxed manner, we opted for the Seattle CityPASS. This not only saves on admission, but also gives you direct access to five of the most famous attractions. Long lines? No chance of waiting. Before heading back home on Sunday afternoon, I really wanted to take the opportunity to see the sights of Washington D.C. and the National Air and Space Museum at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Centre. Unfortunately, the weather didn't play ball and it rained all day.
