Langkawi has a lot to offer in terms of food. From traditional Malaysian dishes to international cuisine, and even the usual fast-food chains like McDonald's, Subway, Starbucks, and KFC, you can find it all here. Hunger led us to Cenang every evening because it was simply the shortest route.
Indian Palace (Cenang, Langkawi)
The Indian Palace is located right on the main shopping street in Cenang. Like most restaurants on the island, it looks relatively simple and unpretentious. The decor isn't comparable to what you'd find in Germany. But don't let that fool you, as it often says nothing about the food. The Indian Palace offers a wide selection of different curries, rice, and naan breads. I had a vegetarian curry and Christian a chicken curry, and we could choose the spice level for both. The food was very, very tasty, even though it was a bit too spicy for me (I ordered the mildest option). The creaminess was just right, and the portion size was absolutely sufficient! We especially loved the garlic naan bread. The staff was also friendly and helpful.
fat CUPID (Cenang, Langkawi)
Based on a TripAdvisor recommendation, we drove to the slightly more secluded Fat Cupid. This restaurant belongs to a small boutique hotel called "La Pari Pari." The atmosphere here is truly wonderful. You sit in an open dining room, without walls or windows, and have a direct view of the pool and the small guest houses. It's very stylish. The service is incredibly friendly and always cheerful.
For a drink, I had a wildberry iced tea, made with fresh fruit, tea, and ice. It was absolutely fantastic! As a starter, we shared a garlicky pizza bread. For the main course, Christian had a great burger with beef, bacon, a fried egg, and vegetables (wow!), and I had the traditional satay skewers (6 chicken and 6 beef). Everything tasted amazing and was perfectly prepared.
We were so impressed that we even went back a few evenings later for another meal. This time, we had the absolutely delicious frozen melon and lychee juice and wontons as a starter. For his main course, Christian chose the Nyonya Chicken Curry, made with coriander, lemongrass, and a turmeric paste. It came with briefly fried Asian vegetables, egg, chicken, and rice. I had the Thai beef salad with perfectly cooked strips of beef tenderloin. They really know their stuff! The food here is absolutely delicious.
Night Market
The Night Market takes place every day from around 5:00 PM. What's special about it is its location, as it changes daily. You definitely need to find out in advance where it is. On Thursdays, for example, it's in Cenang, or rather, very close by. So we set off. Since we were coming from our trip to Gunung Raya that day, we took a different route into Cenang than usual and thus stumbled upon the Night Market quite by chance. We never would have guessed it was there and probably would have searched for it endlessly once we were inside Cenang. The market was smaller than we had expected. Somehow, it looked much more spacious in the photos online.

There's practically everything, from clothes and toys to sweets and fruit, and of course fish and meat, both raw and cooked. We actually wanted to eat here, since we'd read so many good things about it online. But when we saw all the flies on the food and realized how long some of the meat had been sitting in the sun, we lost our appetite. Maybe we shouldn't have been so fussy and just tried something?! Somehow, though, we just didn't feel like it. Watching the colorful market bustle was still fun, though. We can definitely recommend this experience to everyone.
