Some may think I'm crazy to spend an afternoon on four flights during a relaxing holiday in Greece. Sure, for the majority there is no point in flying to the island of Chios for just 25 minutes. However, I need this mileage run with Aegean Airlines to extend my Star Alliance Gold frequent flyer status for another year.
Once you have frequent flyer status, you want to defend it every year. I have had Star Alliance Gold status with the Greek airline Aegean Airlines for almost five years now. As we hardly travelled by plane this year due to the birth of our son in January, we had to do a mileage run to extend our status.
The Aegean Business Lounge Thessaloniki is located at the end of the departure gates at Thessaloniki Airport, after passing through security. One of the biggest advantages is direct boarding from the lounge for any flight within the Schengen area. I think the design is extremely successful. The interior designer was inspired by a film set when selecting the furniture.
