If you are looking for an alternative to the Lufthansa lounges in Terminal 1 at Frankfurt Airport, you may find yourself in the LuxxLounge Frankfurt. The airline-independent lounge is located before the security checkpoint, which can be practical for some travellers, while for others it significantly restricts comfort. But what can visitors expect inside? What are the facilities like, what is on offer and is it worth a visit? In our review, we take a close look at the LuxxLounge Frankfurt.
Where is the LuxxLounge Frankfurt located?
The LuxxLounge is located in Terminal 1 of Frankfurt Airport, the home terminal of Lufthansa and its partners. It is located on the level above the check-in counters in areas B and C, i.e. landside and therefore before the security check. Access is via well signposted escalators. The entrance to the lounge is located directly at the top of the escalators. From a planning perspective, the location is rather unfavourable: if you want to use the lounge before departure, you have to allow extra time for the security check - and in Frankfurt in particular, this can quickly become critical in terms of time. This makes the lounge almost impossible to use for transit passengers, as they would first have to leave the security area and then go through security again.

Who has access to the LuxxLounge Frankfurt?
There are various ways to use the LuxxLounge Frankfurt. The best known is the partnership with programmes such as Priority Pass, Lounge Key, DragonPass or Diners Club. Members of these programmes can use the lounge free of charge or at reduced rates. In addition, business class passengers of selected airlines such as El Al, Condor or Tunisair receive access as part of their booking.

Alternatively, access to the lounge can also be purchased for a fee. The entrance fee is 39 euros for a stay of up to three hours. A discounted day ticket is available for children between the ages of two and six, while children under the age of two are generally admitted free of charge. The LuxxLounge Frankfurt is open daily from 6.30 am to 9.30 pm.
How is the LuxxLounge Frankfurt equipped?
The LuxxLounge Frankfurt extends over an elongated, tube-like floor plan. After check-in, the path leads to the right into the larger lounge area. Several tables with simple plastic chairs and a leather bench along the wall awaited us there. There were also four comfortable armchairs at the back of this section. We then crossed a corridor where the sanitary facilities are located. According to the signage, there should also be a shower room there, but this was not accessible. Behind this was the buffet and finally another seating area. This largely mirrored the front area in terms of layout and furnishings. At the end of the lounge there was a small business centre with two workstations and a conference room, which was closed during our visit.

To the left of the entrance was another area with bar stools and a separate drinks buffet. However, this looked deserted and as if it was not in use - perhaps it was permanently closed.

Overall, the design of the lounge looked a little dated, with clear oriental-Arabic influences recognisable. The condition of the furnishings did not quite meet the expectations of an international airport lounge: many pieces of furniture showed clear signs of wear and the room made a slightly neglected impression overall, as if necessary modernisations had not been carried out for some time. On a positive note, the numerous power sockets, including modern USB-A and USB-C ports, as well as the free Wi-Fi without registration are worth highlighting.

What is there to eat and drink in the LuxxLounge Frankfurt?
We visited the LuxxLounge on a Saturday morning, the traditional breakfast time, which was also reflected in the menu. The buffet included pancakes, Vienna sausages, various types of bread, croissants, crackers and some fresh fruit. This was complemented by cakes from the industry and a bowl of nachos - a rather unusual choice for breakfast, but one that got us in the mood for our upcoming Mexican holiday.

The drinks menu included two fridges with a selection of soft drinks such as Coke, Fanta and Sprite as well as a few types of beer. There was a fully automatic coffee machine at the drinks buffet, but it only served classic coffee and hot water. There was no cappuccino or other specialities. The offer was complemented by simple spirits and one red and one white wine. Overall, the offer was more functional than high-quality, but sufficient for a short break before the flight.
