Due to the reopening of Berlin Airport during the coronavirus pandemic and the associated travel restrictions, Lufthansa initially only opened a smaller lounge for all passengers with different frequent flyer statuses. With increasing travel volumes in early 2023, Lufthansa decided to expand its lounge offerings to include a Senator Lounge in the originally planned space. Find out what frequent flyers can expect in the Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin in our review.
Where is the Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin?
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin is located in Terminal 1. After the security check and the duty-free shop, the route to the lounge is clearly signposted toward Gates B. The Lufthansa lounges are located opposite Gate B20 on the first floor and are easily recognizable thanks to the Lufthansa logo on the wood paneling. Access to the respective floor is available via elevator or stairs.

Who has access to the Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin?
Access to the Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin is available to all passengers of a Star Alliance airline, regardless of the booked travel class, who have at least Star Alliance Gold frequent flyer status. This can be, for example, Lufthansa Senator status or any other Star Alliance partner. Members with the higher Lufthansa HON Circle status as well as First Class passengers are also entitled to access. Depending on the specific circumstances, at least one guest can be taken into the lounge on the same flight. Business Class passengers are generally not permitted access. An exception are holders of a American Express Platinum Cardwho have free access to the Senator Lounge with a Business Class ticket from the Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, Eurowings) even without status.

What is the Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin equipped with?
After the joint reception area of the Lufthansa lounges, the Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin is located on the right. Right at the entrance, in the passageway to the lounge itself, you'll find a long shelf offering daily newspapers and various magazines. This is followed by the lounge's spacious, yet narrow seating area. To the right, the buffet is filled with standard dining tables with two chairs each, but there are also larger conference tables. To the left is the relaxation area with various seating groups consisting of leather armchairs, sofas, and comfortable swivel chairs. The seating groups are punctuated by various bookshelves and even a fake fireplace. There are also numerous power outlets and wireless charging options.

The large window front, which only partially faces the apron, allows plenty of natural light into the lounge. Overall, the furnishings and design of the Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin make a very positive impression and create a pleasant atmosphere.
What is available to eat and drink in the Lufthansa Senator Lounge Berlin?
For what felt like far too long after the pandemic, the food and beverage offerings in Lufthansa lounges were very minimal. Fortunately, the dry spell has now been overcome, and the quality, as well as the quantity, of food and beverages has noticeably improved again. During our stay on the morning of Whit Monday, breakfast was still being served. This consisted of hot dishes such as scrambled eggs with bacon, boiled eggs, and confit cherry tomatoes. A second buffet offered a farmer's breakfast as a Berlin "specialty." There was also a cold buffet with natural yogurt, freshly cut fruit, strawberry and rhubarb compote, various cheeses, antipasti, cold cuts, various sweet spreads, and cakes. Of course, there were also pastries and rolls.

The beverage selection is comparable to that of Lufthansa's other Senator Lounges. There's a wide selection of spirits, several beers, various red and white wines, three types of sparkling wine, and, of course, non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks. The lounge also has a second beverage station with a fully automatic coffee machine and a selection of cold drinks.
