Hilton Garden Inn Davos

Hilton Garden Inn Davos

We are passionate snowboarders and have often explored the Alps in winter. But this time we wanted to experience the region in summer. The Alps offer a wealth of exclusive hotels in Austria and Switzerland, but chain hotels are few and far between. Our choice fell on the Hilton Garden Inn Davos, and in this hotel review we share our experiences and impressions with you.

Arrival and check-in

Due to a traffic jam in Bregenz on beautiful Lake Constance, our journey to Davos was considerably delayed. We didn't arrive at the Hilton Garden Inn Davos until the evening. We received a very warm welcome when we checked in. We were upgraded from our reserved room to one of the two available junior suites. As a benefit for our HHonors Gold status, we also received two bottles of water.

In addition to lots of tips for excursions and hikes that are also possible with a pushchair, we also received the Davos-Klosters region guest card. This allows us to use the mountain railways free of charge, for example. We will be publishing an article about the Davos region and our time there in the next few weeks. In it, we will also describe all the advantages of the guest card.

What are the rooms (Junior Suite) like at the Hilton Garden Inn Davos?

Our junior suite (room number 328) was located on the third floor of the hotel and was separated from the corridor by an additional door. At 48 square metres, the suite was sufficiently large and spacious. We had a living room, a walk-in wardrobe, a bedroom and a large bathroom at our disposal. The furniture was covered in brown wood veneer. The rest of the furnishings and lighting also looked harmonious and elegant at the same time.

Living room

Once we had entered our suite through the heavy, soundproofed entrance door, there was a walk-in wardrobe on the left-hand side. Here we found countless storage options and a safe the size of a laptop.

In the living room itself, there was a comfortable sofa with a coffee table and two armchairs. On the wall opposite the sofa was a lowboard with an integrated desk. Here we liked the many shelves that were available in addition to the 32″ LCD TV, a built-in fridge, a kettle with instant coffee or tea and the work area. There was no shortage of free power sockets in this hotel room. At the desk alone there was space for a Schuko plug (plug type F) and three Euro plugs (plug type C). The fast WLAN connection was free of charge as we are HHonors members (register here for free), and could be used by any number of devices at the same time. Both the bedroom and the living room were equipped with air conditioning, which could be controlled separately via an LCD touchscreen.

Bedroom

The sleeping area was separated from the living area by a smooth-running sliding door. The division into two rooms was perfect for us. This meant that our little son (6 months) could sleep in peace in the bedroom in the evening. The hotel had also thought of a baby cot including bed linen. For us parents, there was a very comfortable and pleasantly hard double bed (king size). There was a bedside table with a socket and light switch on either side of the bed. Of course, there was also the obligatory Hilton clock radio. In the left-hand corner of the room was an armchair with an ottoman and a small side table. The lowboard opposite the bed was identical to the one in the living room. Only the fridge was missing. But who needs two fridges? :)

Balcony with alpine view

There was a balcony adjoining both the bedroom and the living room. From here, we enjoyed the marvellous view to the south of the Alpine panorama. The Swiss celebrate their bank holidays on 1 August. We were lucky enough to be greeted by a sensational firework display on the day of our arrival.

Bathroom

The bathroom was equipped with a shower and bathtub. The care products provided were from Peter Thomas Roth. In contrast to the living room and bedroom, there was unfortunately hardly any storage space in the bathroom. These were only available to a limited extent around the washbasin. There was also no soap dish or shelf in the shower.

Breakfast

Breakfast was included in the room rate and was served in the lobby of the hotel restaurant "The Grill". The very friendly restaurant manager showed us to one of the ample and well-set tables. The various coffee specialities and freshly prepared dishes (waffles, omelettes, French toast or fresh egg dishes) were served by the service staff at the table. Of course, there was also an extensive breakfast buffet. Cold cuts, Swiss cheese, jam, spreads, various types of yoghurt and fresh fruit salad were available from a refrigerated counter. The typical hot dishes such as scrambled eggs or bacon were served in hot food containers at the open kitchen counter. Of course, there were also different types of bread, rolls and pastries as well as muesli.

Dinner

In the summer months, it is not easy to find a restaurant open in Davos. Many restaurants only open in the high season between October and May. The restaurant "The Grill" at the Hilton Garden Inn, on the other hand, is open daily from 6 to 10 pm.

The menu offers fresh regional and international dishes. We ordered the homemade ravioli with asparagus and Älplermakronen. This Swiss speciality consisted of pasta and potatoes in a cream sauce and topped with mountain cheese. It was served with a small portion of apple sauce. Both dishes were very tasty and the size was fine.

True to the motto "... there is always room for dessert!", we ordered a chocolate cake with passion fruit sorbet for dessert on the recommendation of the restaurant manager. As requested, the cake was filled with a liquid chocolate centre. It was served with roasted pine nuts. Very tasty!

We paid a total of CHF 71 (approx. EUR 64) for two main courses, a dessert and a drink each. This puts "The Grill" restaurant in the middle price segment in Davos.

What does the Hilton Garden Inn Davos offer for relaxation?

Now, you don't necessarily have to go to the sauna in summer. But after a long hike, it can't hurt, I thought to myself. As most of the guests thought the same during our stay, I was all alone in the wellness area in the basement of the Hilton Garden Inn Davos. The best conditions for relaxing in peace!

I had taken a bathrobe from our hotel room. There were plenty of towels in the wellness area and, of course, a changing room with lockers. From a small lounge, there was a 90°C sauna on the left and a steam bath on the right. There was also an infrared cabin, a water dispenser, an option for a foot bath and, as a highlight after the sauna session, an experience shower (bucket of cold water). For those who don't like the cold splash, there was also a normal shower with a rain shower. Between sauna sessions, I relaxed in the next room. There were several loungers there and magazines were also available. I would have liked quiet background music in both the relaxation room and the quiet room.

We did not use it, but for the sake of completeness I would like to mention the fitness centre in my hotel review. I cannot judge the quality of the equipment or the training facilities in this case. However, I found the room to be well equipped compared to other hotels.

Service at the Hilton Garden Inn Davos

There is a business centre in the lobby of the hotel. This is open 24 hours a day and every hotel guest can fax, copy, print or use one of the two PCs there free of charge. There was a small shop right next to the reception. All kinds of snacks and drinks were available here, as well as more unusual items such as bicycle inner tubes.

Free parking is hardly possible anywhere in Davos. There are only six car parks next to the Hilton Garden Inn Davos that can be used free of charge. However, the underground car park under the hotel offers sufficient space. However, this also costs CHF 18 per day. Great for active holidaymakers with mountain bikes: we found a bike wash box in the underground car park. In the basement of the hotel there was also a ski room and a coin-operated washing machine with tumble dryer.

Our stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Davos took place at the invitation of the hotel. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them once again for their excellent cooperation and support. Summary

The Hilton Garden Inn Davos offers stylish, spacious and very clean rooms. The location of the hotel is ideal, only the one-way street passing by disturbs the enjoyment of the Alps somewhat. The staff were always helpful and provided us with numerous tips for excursions. This makes the Hilton Garden Inn Davos the perfect Alpine hotel for us, whether in summer or winter.
