Hilton Budapest City

The Hilton Budapest City is one of two Hilton hotels in the capital of Hungary. We chose this Hilton on the Pest side of the Danube for our weekend trip to Budapest, partly because of the easy access to the airport. You can find out whether this was a good decision in our hotel rating.

Booking, arrival and check-in

We arrived at the Hilton Budapest City early Saturday evening. I had already checked in the day before using the Hilton app. Here I got the good news that we had been upgraded from the booked standard room to a king executive suite. So all we had to do was sign at reception and get our room cards. The young woman at the reception was very accommodating and gave us some tips and maps for our city trip.

Where is the Hilton Budapest City located?

The hotel is centrally located near the western railway station "Budapest-Nyugati" and is therefore perfectly connected to the public transport network. In addition, the WestEnd Shopping Center is directly connected to the hotel and one can find numerous shops, restaurants and entertainment venues there. Other sights such as B. the Parliament building, are only 15 minutes away on foot.

How are the rooms (King Executive Suite) at the Hilton Budapest City?

Our King Executive Suite was adequate in size and had a linear floor plan. It quickly became apparent that the suite consisted of two standard guest rooms.

Immediately after the front door on the right hand side was the bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. In the hallway there was also a large wardrobe with an ironing board and two bathrobes.

Due to the lack of decoration, the living room looked a bit bare. The furniture in it, a sofa, an armchair and a lounger seemed a bit lost. As a surprise, there was a welcome greeting from the hotel on a side table. Thank you for the sweet treat and the sparkling wine - that's how you feel welcome as a Diamond status guest!

The bedroom looked more thoughtfully decorated with the large closet and king size bed. There was also a desk and a stocked minibar.

The decor clearly showed the age of the hotel. The not-quite-contemporary design and the wear and tear of the cabinets were clearly visible. The upholstered furniture and the bed appear to have been renewed once as there were hardly any signs of wear and tear. Nevertheless, we were satisfied with our suite, mainly because of the cleanliness.

How is breakfast at the Hilton Budapest City?

For breakfast we went to the hotel restaurant “Arrabona”. This is located on the mezzanine below the first floor. The many windows make it pleasantly bright and friendly. In the warm summer months you can also go to the outdoor terrace for breakfast. The tables were set and the service always tried to keep everything clean and tidy. Just seconds after we were seated, a waiter came and offered coffee and orange juice. That's what I expect from a five star hotel.

The breakfast offer was spread over three buffets. There was everything you would expect from a good standard breakfast at first glance. For a hotel in the upper class, however, we expect one or two extras. In addition to the buffet we could order freshly prepared egg dishes. As a result, the positive overall impression was maintained!

How is the executive lounge at the Hilton Budapest City?

Because of our Hilton Diamond status, but also because of a room in the Executive area, we were able to visit the Executive Lounge at the Hilton Budapest City. The lounge is located on the fourth floor of the hotel.

Access is possible via the room card from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. During this time, coffee, water, soft drinks and small snacks and cakes are offered free of charge. Breakfast is served in the lounge from 7am to 10am. Since we had breakfast in the main restaurant "Arrabona", we cannot report on the range and the quality of the food.

In the evening (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) the Hilton Budapest City invites you to a Happy Hour in the Executive Lounge. During this time, the range of drinks will be supplemented by various spirits, wine and beer. In addition, three warm meals and a small selection of salads and antipasti are offered. The food was delicious and the service was always friendly.

In addition to the seating in the dining area, there is also an outdoor terrace. In winter, this is used as a kind of conservatory. There is also an iMac with internet access and a printer available for free.
