Hilton Molino Stucky

Hilton Molino Stucky

Luxury hotels in Venice are a dime a dozen, some are located directly in the winding alleyways, some a little further out. The Hilton Molino Stucky Venice, which we chose as our domicile for our trip to Venice at the turn of the year 2021/22, is no exception. Find out what our stay was like and what benefits you can expect as a Hilton Diamond status guest in the following hotel review.

Booking, arrival and check-in

Since we had already stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Venice (our hotel rating) and this is only 30 minutes away from Venice, we arrived in the lagoon city early in the day. We drove over the 3850 meter long Ponte della Liberta road bridge that connects Venice to the mainland and parked our car in one of the official parking lots. Tip: Hilton hotel guests receive a 20% discount at Tronchetto Parking (more information on the Parking in Venice).

We took the “Vaporettos” public water bus to Sacca Fisola Island and got off at the stop of the same name. From there it was only a short walk through the alleys and over a small bridge to the Giudecca Island and the Hilton Molino Stucky. Check-in in the lobby, which was still decorated for Christmas, was uncomplicated and friendly. Unfortunately, upgrades for Hilton Diamond members were limited due to occupancy. We were therefore only given a room with a king-size bed and a view of Venice.

Where is the Hilton Molino Stucky located?

As mentioned in the section on how to get there, the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice is located on the island of Giudecca. This barrier island is directly opposite the main island of Venice, which in theory allows for incredible views of the lagoon. Unfortunately, during our stay in winter, Venice was often shrouded in fog, so we were largely denied the view.

To get to the sights of Venice, such as St. Mark's Square, you have to cross by boat. You have the choice between the public water buses and the hotel's own shuttle boat. The shuttle boat runs regularly, but not more than once an hour, directly from the hotel to St. Mark's Square. The public boat stops are about 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel. We opted for the hotel's offer and paid 8.50 euros per adult for the entire stay.

What are the rooms (King Guest Room) like at the Hilton Molino Stucky?

The hotel was built in an old grain mill and is one of the most impressive buildings on the island. Accordingly, the corridors to our room are very winding and, with their open beam structure, are reminiscent of an old warehouse.

Our room was on the second floor and thanks to the upgrade offered a view of the main island of Venice. The room was quite small at 23 square meters and there was hardly any space apart from the king-size bed, a small desk and a chest of drawers (incl. minibar). The decor was dark in color in keeping with the rest of the hotel and a bit dated.

The bathroom design was very luxurious with its marble but also a bit dated. In addition to a shower tub, there was a toilet with an extra bidet and enough storage space on the large vanity. Overall everything was very clean and well made.

How is breakfast at the Hilton Molino Stucky?

Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. For us as status guests this was free of charge. Otherwise you have to book it with the room rate or pay separately. After our room number was checked, we were shown to the table by the service staff. However, the atmosphere in the restaurant is more like that of a train station. When many guests are present, it gets very loud and the room or the room acoustics can hardly compensate for this. The service staff was very friendly and quick to clear and set the tables again.

A carafe of orange juice and filter coffee were already on the table. Other hot drinks such as cappuccino, hot chocolate or espresso can be ordered at any time.

The buffet was in an adjoining room of the breakfast restaurant. The way there can sometimes be a bit narrow, especially during Corona times. However, the buffet itself leaves little to be desired and corresponds to the star category of the hotel. There were different types of fruit, desserts, muesli and various warm dishes. My highlight, however, was the three differently sized loaves of parmesan and the freshly sliced ham. The hotel also offered a breakfast menu where you could order freshly prepared egg dishes such as fried eggs, pancakes or omelettes.

What is the executive lounge like at the Hilton Molino Stucky?

The Executive Lounge is located on the ground floor of the hotel and is a separate area from the Lobby Bar. Access is possible via the activated room card if you are either a Hilton status guest or have booked a room/suite from a certain category. Hours of operation are limited compared to other Hilton hotels. The lounge is only open from 12pm to 7pm and happy hour is offered from 5pm to 7pm.

We found the range of food and drinks in the Executive Lounge to be very poor for a five-star hotel. During the day there were coffee specialities, soft drinks and small snacks such as biscuits and chips. Alcoholic drinks (beer, red and white wine and Prosecco) and cold sandwiches were also offered during happy hour.

Summary

The Hilton Molino Stucky is an imposing building and a very good hotel choice with its view of Venice. The rooms, especially those in the lower price categories, are very small. But the condition and facilities are reasonably good for a five star hotel. From the perspective of a Hilton Diamond status guest, the Executive Lounge offerings are a bit lackluster and the upgrades could be a bit more generous.
