Condor Premium Economy Airbus A330neo to Cancun

Condor Premium Economy Airbus A330neo

An upgrade to Condor Premium Economy Class – is it really worth it on long-haul flights? We flew Condor's Airbus A330neo from Frankfurt to Cancún and tested what Premium Economy Class has to offer on board – from seat comfort to catering and in-flight entertainment. We share our impressions and experiences in this detailed review.

How did we book our flight?

Our flight with Condor to Cancún was part of a package tour to Mexico and was initially booked in the classic Economy Class. When we wanted to view our booking on the Condor website, the airline offered us an upgrade to Premium Economy Class for 180 euros or to Business Class for 780 euros – each for the outbound flight only. Things really got interesting, however, during online check-in 24 hours before departure: There, we were offered an upgrade to Premium Economy Class for 99 euros per person. We immediately accepted this offer. Condor wanted to charge an additional 18 euros per person for seat reservation. We declined this, hoping that the system would automatically assign us three adjoining seats. This calculation actually worked: We landed in row 16 in seats E, F, and G in the middle block. While these weren't exactly our favorite seats, they were significantly better than spending an extra 54 euros. In general, you'll notice that Condor charges additional fees in many areas: from seat reservations to guaranteed hand luggage space and upgrades.

In addition to the classic upgrade offers, there is also the option of SeatBoost app to bid on available seats in higher travel classes. A live auction runs from 24 hours until shortly before departure. For our flight, the minimum bid was €75 for Premium Economy Class and €495 for Business Class. With a bit of luck, you can get a better seat at a bargain price. In this case, however, we opted for the fixed offer during online check-in.

What is the cabin and seat like in the Condor Premium Economy Airbus A330neo?

The Condor Premium Economy Airbus A330neo begins directly behind the first door on the right and extends from row 10 to 19. Like Economy Class, the cabin is arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration, meaning there are two window seats and four seats in the middle. With a seat pitch of 89 cm, Condor offers significantly more comfort than in regular Economy Class, even though airlines like SWISS in the Premium Economy Class of the Boeing 777 At 99 cm, they offer slightly more legroom. The cabin itself is separated from Economy Class only by a narrow divider in the ceiling. This is also evident in the restroom situation: While the front restroom on the left is shared by Premium Economy and Economy passengers, the restroom on the right is reserved exclusively for Business Class.

The seats are upholstered in dark blue fabric and can be reclined up to 12 degrees. The headrest is height-adjustable and folds back at the sides, which is useful for supporting your head while sleeping. There's also a footrest that noticeably increases comfort on long-haul flights. We really liked the practical storage compartments: In addition to the sturdy folding table, there's an additional small compartment below the monitor—ideal for a smartphone or drink. The monitor itself features both a USB-A and a USB-C port, and there's a power outlet under every other seat. The adjustable screen has a headphone jack. A simple headset and a bottle of water are provided free of charge. Other amenities include a blanket, a large pillow, and a cardboard amenity kit containing socks, a sleep mask, and a toothbrush. There's also a small travel organizer in the Condor design—on our flight, it was green and white striped. Earplugs are available upon request from the crew. All in all, the Premium Economy Class on Condor's A330neo offers solid amenities that make the flight significantly more pleasant than regular Economy Class.

What is available to eat and drink in the Condor Premium Economy Airbus A330neo?

Shortly after takeoff, service in Premium Economy Class began with a light aperitif. The crew served a bag of crackers and sparkling wine or orange juice in plastic cups. At the same time, the menu, which provided an overview of the food and beverage options on board, was distributed.

For lunch, the menu began with a starter of smoked chicken breast and couscous salad. For the main course, we had two options:

  • Chicken breast strips with Asian vegetables, rice and teriyaki sauce
  • Italian spinach gnocchi with asparagus in lemon cream sauce

I opted for the chicken breast strips, which were truly delicious. Dessert was a slice of apple pie. This was accompanied by Brie, a buttered pretzel roll, and a small chocolate bar. A positive point: the meal was served with metal cutlery—a detail that made the difference from economy class noticeable.

About halfway through the flight, somewhere over the Atlantic near St. John's, the crew surprised us with a welcome refreshment: Ben & Jerry's Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream. It was a real highlight and definitely put us in the holiday spirit. About an hour and a half before landing, the second service began. First, a hot towel was served, followed by a warm snack: cheese pizza, accompanied by a Mediterranean pasta salad and some fresh fruit. This rounded off the flight pleasantly from a culinary perspective.

The drinks selection in Premium Economy was also impressive and, unlike in Economy Class, completely free. In addition to red and white wine and sparkling wine, there were various beers from Bitburger and BrewDog, including non-alcoholic varieties. The BrewDog beer was served in cans with a cool Condor stripe design. Spirits included Smirnoff Vodka, Bombay Sapphire Gin, Bacardi Rum, and Johnnie Walker Black Label. Those who wanted to stay alcohol-free could choose from a wide selection of soft drinks such as Coca-Cola, Fanta, Bitter Lemon, tonic water, various juices, as well as coffee and tea. Mineral water was, of course, always available.

One drawback, however, should be mentioned: Special menus such as lactose-free or vegan meals must be pre-ordered and cost a surcharge of €20 for Economy Class passengers. Since we only upgraded to Premium Economy Class during online check-in, the order deadline had already passed. Accordingly, we were unable to take advantage of any of the special menus normally offered free of charge in Premium Economy Class. Nevertheless, the catering in Condor Premium Economy offered a significantly improved experience compared to regular Economy Class: It was varied, delicious, and offered a few delightful surprises – most notably the ice cream service mid-flight.

What is the in-flight entertainment like on the Condor Premium Economy Airbus A330neo?

The in-flight entertainment in Premium Economy Class on Condor's Airbus A330neo fleet made a modern impression at first glance. Each seat was equipped with a 4K monitor, operated via a responsive touchscreen. The picture-in-picture function was particularly practical, allowing passengers to view the flight map without interrupting the movie. It was also possible to connect their own Bluetooth headphones—a real advantage over many other airlines.

The entertainment offering was solid, but not outstanding. There was a large selection of films, with an emphasis on classics. The "New Releases" section offered only 17 titles, most of which were from 2019 to 2024—there were no truly current blockbusters. Filters by genre, language, and subtitles made the selection easier. The program was supplemented by a small collection of TV shows, although these often only included individual episodes. There was also an ARD and ZDF media library offering content such as Die Sendung mit der Maus (The Show with the Mouse), Tatort (Tatort), or even an episode of Traumschiff (Dream Ship). For football fans, there was a dedicated Bundesliga section with short documentaries about the individual clubs, although there were no live matches. Unfortunately, there were no external cameras for a live view of the flight.

In addition to in-flight entertainment, Wi-Fi was also available on board, although this was subject to a fee – even for Premium Economy Class passengers. Two tariffs were available:

  • FlyConnect Chat: Text messages only at speeds up to 100 kbps for 7 euros per flight.
  • FlyConnect Surf: Emails, internet, and social media at speeds of up to 1.2 Mbps for 20 euros per flight.

Overall, the in-flight entertainment provided a good basis for making the long flight to Mexico more varied – even if the film selection wasn't quite up to date.

Premium Economy Class on Condor's Airbus A330neo offered a solid overall package with noticeably more comfort than regular Economy Class. The 89 cm seat pitch, adjustable headrests, and additional storage compartments made the long-haul flight significantly more pleasant. The catering was also a pleasant surprise; the ice cream service mid-flight was a particular highlight. The drinks selection was extensive. However, the selection of current films could have been larger. All in all, the upgrade for €99 per person during online check-in was a real bargain, significantly enhancing the value of the flight to Mexico. If you get the chance, you should definitely try Condor's Premium Economy Class—it's a worthwhile alternative between Economy and Business Class, especially for long flights.
