Travel blog for families & couples – airline, hotel & lounge reviews

Welcome to miles-around, the German-language travel blog for couples and families! We share first-hand experiences from flights in First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class – with airlines like Turkish Airlines, Condor and SWISS – reviewing cabins on short- and long-haul routes. We also feature over 50 lounge reviews from around the world, from Priority Pass lounges to exclusive airline lounges at airports like Frankfurt, Istanbul and Singapore. Our hotel reviews cover everything from four-star city hotels to five-star luxury resorts, always based on personal stays rather than press material. We have explored destinations like Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, the USA and Egypt ourselves, sharing what truly matters – whether travelling as a family, as a couple or on business.

Airline reviews

We have personally tested cabins on over 20 airlines – from First Class on long-haul flights to Economy Class on short-haul routes. In our trip reports we show what seat comfort, cabin service and catering are really like.
SWISS A320-200 (registration HB-JLP) at Gate A11

SWISS Airbus A320-200 Economy Class, Berlin to Zurich

Our trip to Singapore began with a train journey from Halle (Saale) to Berlin. The journey time by ICE is just 1 hour and 16 minutes, although to be fair, this also includes the bus (line TXL) from Berlin Central Station to Tegel Airport. All in all, we were just as fast as by car, but […]
Aegean Airlines A320-200 (registration SX-DVJ)

Aegean Airlines Airbus A320-200 Business Class, Thessaloniki to Larnaca

After arriving at Thessaloniki Airport, we quickly picked up our tickets to Larnaca at the Aegean Airlines Business Class counter. We got through security quickly and were able to access the Aegean Business Lounge. The Aegean Business Lounge Thessaloniki was, once again, very nicely furnished. It featured several white leather sofas, seating areas, and a large rectangular buffet area […]

Aegean Airlines Airbus A320-200 Economy Class, Rhodes to Thessaloniki

Rhodes Airport, perhaps due to the darkness and rain, was quite run-down. There was no lounge operated by Aegean Airlines or any other Star Alliance partner. However, we barely had any time to kill, as our flight to Thessaloniki departed at 7:50 p.m. Boarding, for the planes standing on the tarmac […]
Aegean Airlines Airbus A320-200 - Boarding in Athens

Aegean Airlines Airbus A320-200 Economy Class, Athens to Rhodes

Aegean Business Lounge Athens: After our arrival in Athens, we went to the Aegean Business Lounge. While it was a decent size, it was also very crowded since it was Friday afternoon. Luckily, we found a seat on one of the black leather sofas. It was a shame that the staff couldn't keep up with clearing the tables. There were a lot of […]
Beef with artichokes in a fennel sauce with traditional pasta "Striftoudi" from Crete

Aegean Airlines Airbus A320-200 Business Class, Berlin to Athens

We were picked up at Kurfürstendamm five minutes ahead of schedule, at 8:30 a.m., in a myDriver limousine, a BMW 5 Series. After the driver had stowed our luggage in the trunk, we settled into the comfortable leather seats inside. The ride was very pleasant and without any of the risky maneuvers sometimes seen from taxi drivers. It's great […]

Seating area in the Lufthansa Business Lounge Leipzig/Halle

Lufthansa Business Lounge Leipzig/Halle

Currently, the Lufthansa Group airlines fly 75 times a week from Leipzig/Halle Airport to destinations in Germany and Europe. Therefore, it's only natural that there is also a Lufthansa Business Lounge at Leipzig/Halle Airport. I visited it on my way to Frankfurt and would like to briefly introduce it in a lounge review.
Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge Toronto Transborder

Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge Toronto Transborder

Air Canada operates three airport lounges at Toronto-Pearson Airport (YYZ) – one each for international, domestic, and US flights. On our way to Seattle, we visited the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge Toronto Transborder. Read our review to find out how we spent our time there and what the lounge had to offer.

Entrance to the SWISS Lounge Chicago (O'Hare)

SWISS Lounge Chicago

The SWISS Lounge at Chicago O'Hare Airport was completely renovated in 2011. Seating area at the large window front of the Aegean Business Lounge Thessaloniki

Aegean Business Lounge Thessaloniki (2016)

The Aegean Business Lounge Thessaloniki is located at the end of the departure gates at Thessaloniki Airport, after passing through security. One of the biggest advantages is direct boarding from the lounge for any flight within the Schengen area. I think the design is extremely successful. The interior designer was inspired by a film set when selecting the furniture.

Sky Bridge

Panorama Langkawi: Cable Car and Sky Bridge

Panorama Langkawi, or Langkawi Sky Cab, has been the island's tourist highlight since its opening in 2002. A 2-kilometer-long cable car takes you to lofty heights on Mount Machinchang. The view from Machinchang Mountain is unique. On a clear day, you can see several kilometers of untouched nature.
Dataran Lang - Landmark of Langkawi

Langkawi: Cenang and Kuah

During our drives around the small island of Langkawi, we mainly passed through settlements and villages. The only two larger towns are Cenang and Kuah. Kuah – Langkawi's capital; Langkawi's shopping paradise; Langkawi's duty-free zone. In the southeast of the island lies Kuah, the capital of Langkawi. Kuah means "stony" in Malay, and a legend says that the town, […]
Rental car on Langkawi - Toyota

Travelling around Langkawi in a hire car

Since we wanted to explore the island on our own, we absolutely needed a rental car on Langkawi. We were driven from our hotel, The Danna Langkawi, to the airport. In the arrivals hall, I immediately started looking for the major rental car companies. But I could have saved myself the time – Avis, Budget, Hertz, and the like weren't represented there.
Supertree Grove

Gardens by the Bay and "Wonderfull" light show

We got off the subway at the Marina Bay Sands station and wanted to cross the bridge from the hotel to Gardens by the Bay. We simply took one of the elevators up to the seventh floor and tried to get towards the bridge, which didn't quite work. Eventually, we realized that you can get from the […]
Souvenir shops in Chinatown

Orchard Road, Chinatown and Lau Pa Sat

Orchard Road – Singapore. Orchard Road is a shopping street in Singapore with one mall after another.
