DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm

Berlin, Kurfürstendamm – a location steeped in history. On the site where, for decades, the Steigenberger Hotel was a fixture on West Berlin’s hotel scene, the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm now welcomes its guests. Following a comprehensive refurbishment, the hotel boasts a fresh design and modern facilities. Since 2025, it has even had its own Executive Lounge. We checked into the hotel for a short family break on a Friday afternoon and took a close look at everything: from the room and the breakfast buffet to the newly opened lounge. In this review, you’ll find out what the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm is really like, where it impresses and where there’s still room for improvement.

Booking and arrival

We booked the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm about a month and a half in advance directly through the Hilton website. As Hilton Honors members, we took advantage of the "Honors Plan and Save" rate and paid €120 per night – a reasonable price considering the hotel's location and standard. Those who regularly stay at Hilton hotels know the benefits of this member rate: it's usually significantly lower than the regular best price and combines flexibility with savings.

Our family travelled from Halle (Saale) by car on Friday afternoon. Our destination was the parking garage at Los Angeles Platz, which is located directly in front of the hotel and couldn't be more conveniently located. It was especially practical for us that the parking garage has 11 kW charging stations, which we were able to use immediately with our electric car.

Where is the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm located?

The DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm is located in a building steeped in history. The striking buildings that now house the hotel were once home to the renowned Steigenberger Hotel, which first opened on the same site in 1981. Extensive renovation and modernization work began in early 2022, and the hotel reopened as the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm at the end of 2023.

The location is hard to beat. Kurfürstendamm is only about 100 meters away, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is just a few minutes' walk. This makes the hotel the natural choice for anyone wanting to combine a city break with extensive shopping, as well as for business travelers who value good public transport connections. The Zoologischer Garten S-Bahn and U-Bahn station is just a ten-minute walk away and offers fast connections in all parts of the city.

What are the rooms like at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm?

We had booked a King Superior Room and that's exactly what we received. Unfortunately, an upgrade wasn't possible, as the selection of available room categories for families of three is limited, and the Junior Suites, which also accommodate three people, were fully booked at the time of our arrival. This is a shame, but understandable for a busy city hotel on a Friday afternoon.

Our room was on the fifth floor. Even the hallway greeted us with its low ceilings, which were hardly noticeable thanks to the bright, modern design – it was clear the hotel had recently been renovated. The design concept, beginning in the lobby, is consistently carried through the entire building and into the rooms: light wood, light fabrics, and light walls are enlivened by dark metal accents on shelves and lamps. Dark wood was used very sparingly, lending the overall look an elegant lightness. Wallpaper with large, sometimes floral patterns adds deliberate accents. Marble on sideboards, tables, and in the bathrooms underscores the hotel's upscale aspirations. Carpets, armchairs, chairs, and sofas are all in a calm blue-gray palette, resulting in a harmonious and well-thought-out overall impression.

Behind the room door was an entrance area with a light wood wardrobe. Inside, we found an ironing board and a small safe, as well as ample storage space and hanging room for several people. Next to it was the minibar with two complimentary bottles of water and a coffee station. Below that was a refrigerator, which was empty except for a sign directing guests to the shop at reception.

The bathroom is on the right. The entrance area is pleasantly bright. The shower is almost level with the floor, and the generously sized vanity offers ample storage space for several people. The combination of light-colored tiles and matte black fixtures works well and complements the overall design concept of the house.

What is the breakfast like at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm?

The hotel restaurant is divided into several sections and is directly connected to the lobby. In the mornings, the rear section transforms into the breakfast room – a light-filled space that invites guests to linger. There is, however, one slight drawback: the acoustics are not ideal. The room has a noticeable echo, so when the dining room is full, the noise level quickly rises. Those wishing to enjoy a peaceful breakfast should therefore arrive early. Status guests can also have breakfast in the Executive Lounge.

As far as the buffet itself is concerned, there's hardly anything to criticize. For a city hotel of this category, the selection was remarkably extensive. Besides a wide variety of cheeses and cold cuts, fresh fruit and vegetables, and various salads, a hot buffet awaited guests, featuring potato rösti, bacon, mushrooms, and grilled tomatoes. Egg dishes were freshly prepared. Those who prefer something lighter could choose from yogurt, cornflakes, and a selection of nuts and seeds. In addition to cow's milk, oat and soy milk were also available – a small but thoughtful touch. The selection of bread and pastries was large and included gluten-free options.

The hotel's conscious approach to sustainability was particularly noteworthy. Many products are organically grown or regionally sourced. This isn't just a marketing ploy; it's genuinely noticeable at the buffet. The DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm is truly committed to this.

What is the Executive Lounge like at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm?

The Executive Lounge at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm only opened in 2025. To find it, walk past the reception, through the restaurant, and turn right at the end of the corridor. The entrance is marked by a tall door with frosted glass panels, which can only be opened with an activated room key card.

The lounge is pleasantly spacious. The buffet is located in one corner, with a high table and light-colored upholstered bar stools in front of it. An aesthetically illuminated metal shelf runs along one entire wall, lending the room an elegant touch. In front of it are individual seating areas with comfortable armchairs and tables with white marble tops – the hotel's familiar design concept is consistently maintained here as well. On the opposite side, there are two further seating areas, complemented by three tables, each with four armchairs. One drawback we noticed during our stay was the uncomfortably warm temperature in the lounge on both evenings – a more effective air conditioning system would be desirable.

The lounge opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 8:00 p.m., making it accessible even during breakfast hours. We took advantage of this on our second morning: the breakfast restaurant is located right next to the lounge entrance. Anyone familiar with the acoustics of the main dining room will quickly understand why the lounge is the more pleasant option. The small buffet offered waffles, pastries, and freshly smoked salmon. A juicer with fresh carrots and apples was also available. While it's not a breakfast that can compete with the restaurant's extensive buffet, it's perfect for a quiet morning with coffee and a light snack. Of course, we were also welcome to help ourselves to the buffet in the breakfast restaurant.

Between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, the lounge served a remarkably extensive selection of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres for a hotel lounge. On our first evening, for example, there was salmon with braised cucumbers, basmati rice, and broccoli. This was accompanied by various small bowls of salads and grilled vegetables, as well as a selection of desserts and cakes.

The drinks menu included soft drinks like Coke, Fanta, tonic, and bitter lemon, as well as Radeberger beer and the non-alcoholic Jever Fun. A white and a red wine were available. The spirits selection comprised three options, including gin and a local vodka, which was a nice touch. A water dispenser and a fully automatic coffee machine, available throughout the day, rounded out the offerings.

What does the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm offer for relaxation?

For those who don't want to miss out on exercise during a city break, the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku'damm offers ideal conditions. The fitness center is located on the second floor and is open 24/7. The spacious room features large windows and a glass dome above the modern exercise equipment, creating a pleasantly light-filled atmosphere. The fitness center certainly doesn't feel cramped or uninspired.

Those who want to relax after their workout will find a sauna and a separate relaxation room right next door. The only downside is that the sauna closes at 8:00 pm. So, anyone wanting to work up a sweat after a long day in the city will need to keep an eye on the time.
