The four-star Hilton Munich Park is just a few minutes' walk from the English Garden. We visited the hotel between Christmas and New Year's Eve during the coronavirus pandemic. Find out how the coronavirus restrictions affected our stay in the following hotel review.
Booking and check-in
In the summer, we were looking for a destination for our New Year's Eve vacation. After foregoing booking a flight due to potential COVID-19 restrictions, we decided to drive to Venice. We chose Munich and the Hilton Munich Park as a stopover for this long drive. We booked a standard room and received an upgrade to an executive room with a view of the English Garden before we even arrived.

Check-in was quick and easy in the beautifully designed lobby. As an additional status benefit, we received a bottle of water per person. The welcome gift we usually receive in our room at other Hilton hotels, which usually includes a bottle of Prosecco and various sweets, was very small here. There was only a jar of chocolate-covered nuts.

What are the rooms (King Executive Park View) like at the Hilton Munich Park?
Our King Executive Room was located on the 14th floor of the Hilton Munich Park. As the name suggests, it was on the side of the hotel facing the English Garden. The private balcony offered a magnificent view of the park.

Our room was a comfortable size. It consisted of a king-size bed, a couch that was rendered useless by the extra bed, and a long desk-wardrobe combination. However, everything was a bit dated. The rather loud air conditioning was a bit annoying at night.

The bathroom design, in particular, reflects the age of the room and hotel. However, everything was clean and in perfect condition. The only criticism was that there were very few storage options.

What is breakfast like at the Hilton Munich Park?
Breakfast is served to guests of the Hilton Munich Park Hotel in the Tivoli Restaurant on the ground floor.

After finding a lovely table by the large window overlooking the Eisbach River, we were immediately greeted by the friendly wait staff. Our drink orders were requested and served directly at our table.

The buffet offered a good selection. The two buffet islands offered cold cuts, desserts, various breads, fruit, and yogurt. Those seeking a genuine Bavarian breakfast could also find white sausages, sweet mustard, and pretzels. There was also an open kitchen where fresh egg dishes were prepared.

What is the Executive Lounge (replacement lounge) like at the Hilton Munich Park?
The Executive Lounge at the Hilton Munich Park is normally located on the 12th floor of the hotel. Access is available as a Hilton Honors Diamond member, by booking a room on the Executive Floor, or by receiving an upgrade. Due to COVID-19 regulations during our stay, the lounge was relocated to a separate area of the Tivoli Restaurant on the ground floor. In the so-called Tivoli Pavilion, there were several tables with chairs or sofas and a makeshift bar. During the day, when the lounge opens, although not until 12 p.m., we were able to relax with a coffee and always found a free table. However, during happy hour, it became very crowded and there wasn't enough space.

The Executive Lounge's offerings included non-alcoholic drinks and coffee specialties throughout the day. During happy hour from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the bar offered a variety of beers, wine, sparkling wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. The service staff was very friendly and prompt in serving drinks.

Instead of the usual buffet, the food was served directly from the kitchen to the table. There was no choice, and only one meal per person per evening. On our first evening, we were served two small tarte flambées and a slice of onion cake. The other evening, fried chicken sticks with peanut dip were served. Both dishes were fine and perfectly adequate as a snack. However, they are no substitute for dinner.

What does the Hilton Munich Park offer for relaxation?
The hotel also offers its guests several spaces for relaxation. The pool, sauna, and fitness area are located in the basement of the hotel. Even though the relaxation area is very small for the size of the hotel, it's nice to have one. Especially when traveling with children, a pool like this is truly worth its weight in gold, even if it's so small.
