My last trip before the corona pandemic broke out took me to Los Angeles in December 2019. Before I returned to Stockholm with SAS, I had some time to spend in the Star Alliance Business Lounge in Los Angeles. I was really looking forward to it because this airport lounge is considered one of the best Star Alliance Gold Lounges in the USA.
There are over 1,000 Star Alliance lounges worldwide. In most cases, these lounges are operated by a member airline such as Lufthansa. However, for seven locations, it has been decided that Star Alliance itself will operate the lounges. Besides Los Angeles, Star Alliance lounges can be found in cities including Rome, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. You can find more information about Star Alliance lounges on the [website/platform name]. official website.
Where is the Star Alliance Business Lounge in Los Angeles?
The Star Alliance Business Lounge Los Angeles is located in the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT). The way to the lounge is very well signposted: After the central security checkpoint, I took the stairs on the right to reach the sixth floor above the duty-free shops. An elevator is also available.

Who has access to the Star Alliance Business Lounge in Los Angeles?
Access to the Star Alliance Business Lounge is available to all Star Alliance Business and First Class passengers departing from Los Angeles on the same day. In addition, Star Alliance Gold owners, like me, have the option of visiting the lounge before departure.

What are the amenities of the Star Alliance Business Lounge in Los Angeles?
The lounge features several seating areas with armchairs and sofas, separated by curtains. I particularly liked the two private alcoves, arranged like a private library. At the rear of the lounge is the dining area with a buffet, several tables and chairs, and a truly beautiful wine display.

Indoor terrace
The terrace open to the terminal is also very beautiful. From there you can watch the hustle and bustle at the departure gates. I found it incredibly comfortable to sit here. This was partly due to the fact that it was partly too dark in the inner seating area. But with a lot of passengers in the terminal it can get a little louder here.

Outdoor terrace
The absolute highlight of the Star Alliance Business Lounge Los Angeles is certainly the outside terrace with a view of the apron. During my stay it rained heavily, so the terrace was closed as a precaution.

The Star Alliance Business Lounge Los Angeles also has showers, which should be standard for a lounge with international departures.
What food and drinks are available in the Star Alliance Business Lounge Los Angeles?
The Star Alliance Lounge Los Angeles offered an above-average range of food and drinks for a business lounge. Compared to a United Club, I found the offer almost as high as a First Class Lounge.
Food
A buffet offered a variety of hot and cold dishes for self-service. There was a selection of salads, sandwiches, chips, four hot main courses, and a separate buffet for creating your own Chinese noodle soup. I also found the dessert selection and the cheese buffet particularly delicious.

Beverages
Drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, were available at a buffet and in the lounge refrigerators. The selection of wine, beer, sparkling wine, and spirits was extensive. There was also a bar where guests could have various long drinks or cocktails prepared.

What a great lounge! Wasn't there a roof terrace here too?
The lounge is really great! Yes, there is a roof terrace. Unfortunately it rained heavily during my stay, so it was closed.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Judging by the pictures, it looks like a great lounge. I hope that the crisis will soon calm down and that we can all travel again.
Thank you for your comment, Sandy! We also hope that we will be able to travel properly again soon. But it will probably take a little longer ...
Hello Christian,
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful impressions.
I'm curious to see how the situation will develop.
Perhaps we are not so far from normal travel after all.
Best regards from Hanover,
Winni
Hi Winni! Thank you for your comment. I also hope that with a high vaccination rate, the situation will normalize again and we'll have a reasonably good selection of food and drinks in the lounges.
Best regards
