Marina Bay Sands

In a few weeks we are flying to Singapore and then to the Malaysian island of Langkawi. We are currently in the middle of preparing for this trip.

Flight booking

We booked the flights to Asia SWISS from Berlin via Zurich to Singapore. The return flight will also be with SWISS to Zurich. However, we will then fly to the new SWISS destination Dresden. On the one hand, this airport is still missing from my statistics and on the other hand, SWISS still uses the Avro RJ100 on this route. I would definitely like to fly this four-engine short-haul jet, colloquially known as the “Jumbolino”, again before it is phased out at the end of 2015.

Are you still looking for a flight to Singapore?

Singapore International Airport can be reached from many German cities all year round. You can find cheap flights through online travel agencies such as Flugladen.de, Bravofly, ebookers.de, Expedia, lastminute.de or Skyscanner.

For the flights within Asia we booked a mix of AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Jetstar Airways.

Entry requirements for Singapore

To enter Singapore, as German citizens we only need a passport that is valid for at least six months. Upon entry we receive a residence permit for up to 90 days. Further information, especially about the strict customs regulations, can be found on the information page Foreign Office.

Note: You can only obtain legally binding information and/or information about entry requirements that goes beyond this information directly from the embassy or one of the general consulates of your destination country.

Hotels

Grand Mercure Roxy Singapur

We will stay in Singapore at the Grand Mercure Roxy for three nights. Here we have reserved a superior room with a king-size bed including breakfast. I'm also excited about the existing executive lounge on the 17th floor, which we have access to thanks to my Le Club Platinum status.

The Danna Langkawi

We will spend a total of seven nights on Pulau Langkawi. There are a number of hotels on the island and there is something to suit every travel budget.

The first two nights we chose the five star resort The Danna Langkawi decided. We are just as excited about the luxurious rooms in British colonial style as we are about the white sandy beach directly at the hotel. After our stay you will be welcomed by us detailed review with lots of pictures.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Zum Ende unserer Reise werden wir noch drei Nächte in Kuala Lumpur verbringen. Hier haben wir über die Points&Cash-Rate sehr günstig ein Zimmer im DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur booked.

trips

We are still working on the program items. An exclusive tour of the place has already been confirmed Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore. You will of course be able to read a detailed report about it here.

I'm curious to see how Singapore has changed since my last visit in 2011 (articles to read: Rainy day in Singapore, Multiculturalism in Singapore).

Shopping in preparation for travel

Because one of our suitcases was on the last one Travel to the west coast of North America was badly affected, we bought a new one for our Southeast Asia trip. Since I've had a TITAN suitcase for a long time and am more than satisfied with its quality, we quickly found what we were looking for. We found it on Amazon TITAN suitcase Backstage, 75 cm, 95 liters, black at a fairly reasonable price.

The camera equipment we travel with has also increased. Until now we've always gone with the light and versatile GorillaPod tripod from Joby on the way. This is really perfect for theoretically attaching the camera to any surface. Unfortunately, in practice this is not always possible and is not stable enough for long exposures. For this reason, we looked into travel tripods in preparation for Southeast Asia. The selection in this product segment is huge and ranges from 30 to well over 300 euros. We'll try it first with a slightly more expensive entry-level tripod Mantona Tripod with ball head.

For your stay on the Malaysian island of Langkawi, we recommend an effective and tropical insect repellent against mosquitoes and ticks. At my Southeast Asia trip 2011 I already had good experiences with the product NOBITE skin spray, 100 ml made. It is important that the active ingredient DEET (diethyltoluamide) is included.
