In May 2023, we spent five nights on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. Looking for a base to explore the breathtaking beauty and rich culture of this fascinating island, our path led us straight to the stunning Hilton Nicosia in the island's vibrant capital. With a perfect blend of first-class service, contemporary ambience and luxurious amenities, this hotel proved to be our perfect choice.
Booking, arrival and check-in
As always, we booked the Hilton Nicosia directly via the Hilton website. Only when you book directly do you receive status benefits in the Hilton Honors programme and can collect points for free overnight stays. For our stay, we took advantage of another benefit of the bonus programme, namely the opportunity to redeem our collected bonus points for overnight stays. During our stay, one night cost 40,000 points and we only needed the points for four nights for the five nights we had booked.

Due to our late arrival from Athens, we didn't arrive at the hotel until around 9 pm. We were already being greeted at reception and check-in went very quickly. Unfortunately, the friendly member of staff also had some bad news for us. As the hotel was fully booked, we were unable to upgrade to a better room as status guests.
Where is the Hilton Nicosia located?
The Hilton Nicosia is currently the only hotel in the Hilton chain on the Mediterranean island. It is located in the business district of the city, which incidentally is the last divided capital in the world. To get to the sights in the city centre, you may need a taxi or hire car. There is ample free parking in front of the hotel.
How are the rooms (King Pool View) at the Hilton Nicosia?
Our King Pool View room was on the 3rd floor and had the layout of a classic hotel room. On entering the room, there was a large wardrobe on the right-hand side, which also housed the safe and minibar. The minibar was empty except for two large bottles of water, which were refilled daily free of charge. On the left-hand side was the modern and neutrally designed bathroom with shower. On the positive side, there were more than enough amenities in the bathroom, as these were not only available next to the washbasin, but also in the shower.

The rest of the room was very simple and without much decoration, which we personally liked. A king-size bed stood against the wall, with a bedside table on either side. There was also a sitting area with a round table and two armchairs of different sizes. These seemed a bit cramped in the corner, but that was due to the extra bed for our son. This bed, by the way, was very comfortable and not just an ordinary fold-out bed. I was also pleasantly surprised by the numerous international power outlets and USB ports located throughout the room.

As status guests, we unfortunately received no additional amenities at the start of our stay, in addition to the unavailable room upgrade. There was neither a welcome letter nor any gift such as chocolates or anything similar in the room. The latter was then presented to us as a gift upon departure.
What is the breakfast like at the Hilton Nicosia?
Breakfast at the Hilton Nicosia is served in the "Olympia" restaurant in the hotel lobby. The extensive buffet offers a diverse selection of international and local delicacies, leaving nothing to be desired. From freshly baked bread and pastries to a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, and fresh fruit, as well as hot dishes such as eggs, sausages, and bacon, there is something for everyone.

We had breakfast every morning on the large terrace under palm trees. There is also a seating area inside the restaurant.

What is the Executive Lounge like at the Hilton Nicosia?
The Hilton Nicosia's Executive Lounge was located in the hotel lobby opposite the reception desk. It was open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and access was via the activated room key. The lounge featured a long standing table for eating and working, several tables with chairs in the buffet area, and a slightly elevated seating area with comfortable armchairs and leather sofas.

The drinks selection at the buffet was very extensive for a hotel lounge. During our stay, alcoholic beverages were always available, not just during happy hour as is usually the case. While there were no spirits during the day, there was wine, three different types of beer, and sparkling wine. And of course, there were also non-alcoholic drinks. Here, they didn't offer the same things as in other lounges, but also Red Bull and iced tea. Coffee and tea were also available, naturally.
Update (April 2025): During our stay in April 2025, unfortunately, no wine, beer or sparkling wine was available outside of happy hour.

During the day, small snacks such as dried fruit and crackers were available. Happy hour, which took place daily from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Hilton Nicosia, offered a variety of hot and cold snacks. On the first evening, for example, there was penne with scampi, a cream of mushroom soup, various sandwiches, and a selection of cheeses. However, these rather small dishes couldn't replace a full dinner. In addition to the food, wines, beers, and spirits were also offered.

What does the Hilton Nicosia offer for relaxation?
During our stay at the Hilton Nicosia, we had the pleasure of using the hotel's beautiful pool area, and I must say it far exceeded our expectations. The hotel boasts a large courtyard pool surrounded by palm trees, creating a true oasis of relaxation. There's a poolside bar with table service and complimentary snacks, such as melon, are readily available. Another positive aspect was the ample number of lounge chairs. No matter what time of day we visited the pool area, there were always plenty of loungers to choose from. Furthermore, towels are provided free of charge to hotel guests.

The hotel also has a large fitness center with a wide variety of equipment and weights. As hotel guests, we were also able to try out the spa area in the basement. However, we were somewhat disappointed. The sauna was unfortunately broken, and the steam room wasn't in the best condition. Furthermore, there were only two places to relax after using the sauna. There was also a small swimming pool. However, the water quality was very poor, and there was a thin film of oil on the surface.
