Since the Eagle House Motel Since no breakfast was offered, we headed to Rockport Harbor in beautiful sunshine and still somewhat cool temperatures to have our own breakfast. We picked up some coffee and some muffins along the way.
Rockport Harbor
Shortly after seven o'clock, it's still very quiet in the fishing village. We quickly found a comfortable bench right by the fishing harbor. While eating our muffins, we watched a seagull stealing fish from a box. It turned out to be bait fish for catching lobsters. The common gull was taking advantage of the time while the fisherman retrieved his boat. After breakfast, we stopped for a photo at the nearby Motif#1. This wooden house with its many buoys on its side is one of Rockport's landmarks. It has even played a cameo role in several films, including "Finding Nemo!"
Halibut Point State Park near Rockport
After leaving the motel, we drove to Halibut Point State Park, north of Rockport. This beautifully situated park on the Atlantic Ocean was once a granite open-pit mine. Today, the old pit is flooded, and a beautiful circular trail has been created. We collected a few geocaches during our walk, including an STF ("Second to Find"), and built figures out of small granite stones. After a good hour, we left the beautiful park behind and continued north along the ocean.
Shopping at Kittery Outlet
After about an hour's drive, we arrived at the Kittery Outlet. This is a large shopping mall where you drive from store to store. After getting some cash at a drive-thru ATM, we shopped extensively at various brands and saved quite a bit in the process. Although that statement is debatable.
Nubble Lighthouse
Once all the bags were stowed in the car, we continued on to Nubble Lighthouse. Unfortunately, it had clouded over a bit, but that didn't detract from the romantic feel of this lighthouse. We wondered the whole time how the lighthouse keeper would get across to the small island. The coastal cliffs were too steep for a boat. The houses all around looked very posh and large. What a residential area!
We had dinner at Panda Express in the Portland Mall. This store is very rare on the East Coast, and I just love orange chicken. The hotel for tonight was the America's Best Value Inn BrunswickThe reviews online all sounded very good. However, we cannot confirm them.
