NYC: Lower Manhattan (Statue of Liberty und Ellis Island)

After an extensive American breakfast with donuts and bagels, we took the subway at around 9:45 a.m Hotel toward Lower Manhattan. Our first stop was the Statue of Liberty (on Liberty Island) and Ellis Island. With the New York Pass we were able to skip the line at the ticket office, but the waiting time at the security check for the ferry was an hour long.

Good morning New York!

The State Cruises ferry departs from Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. The limited free entry tickets to the Pedestal will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Access to the Crown is limited to 240 people per day. A separate ticket is required for this, which can be reserved online up to a year in advance. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful with both tickets and we only had to visit Liberty Island.

After visiting Liberty Island, with a great view of Lower Manhattan, we boarded the ferry again and were driven to the next pier “Ellis Island”. The island has long been the seat of immigration for the state and city of New York and the central collection point for immigrants to the United States for more than 30 years. Today there is a museum commemorating the immigrants.
