Thousand Islands

How many islands does the Thousand Islands archipelago consist of? The Thousand Islands are not only found on the salad plate, but are located at the outlet of Lake Ontario in the border region between Canada and the USA.

After our visit to the Diefenbunkers we drove south and crossed the Thousand Islands, which are shaped by the St. Lawrence River. Over the Thousand Island Bridge (toll 2.75USD) we went to Hill Island. There is the Skydeck tower. It's an outdated observation tower, built in 1965, but that doesn't matter if you enjoy the great view. Here you can also understand how the area got its name, with the many small and large islands, even if there are only 997 officially. You can only see the beauty of it all from above! Chic villas have been built on many of the islands, some of which can only be reached by boat. Great!

Then we continued south to Syracuse, where we had our hotel for the night. That Cresthill Suites is highly recommended and really smartly furnished, with a living-kitchen area, an extra bedroom and a large bathroom.
