It's back to Oslo again! In American Airlines Business Class in the Boeing 777-300ER, we first fly to London Heathrow. From Jamaica Station, the JFK Airport Train takes us to Terminal 8, where American Airlines, Air Berlin and LATAM also depart.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priority check-in<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the departures area, there's a large, separate area for Priority passengers. Oneworld Sapphire, Emerald, Business Class, and First Class passengers check in and drop off their baggage here. There are very comfortable chairs in the waiting area. I've only seen this on Thai Airways in Bangkok (although they're still at the counter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the security check, you walk more or less past the lounge entrance. We take an elevator to the lounge. Business Class and Oneworld Sapphire passengers go to the Admirals Club. Thanks to my Topbonus Platinum status, we go to the Flagship Lounge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We still have plenty of time before departure. We take the last two free recliners by the window. A drink with an umbrella in hand and the view of the apron\u2014what more could a frequent flyer want? :-)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Flagship Lounge is relatively small, but offers a good selection of drinks, snacks, and food. "First Class Lounge" might still be a bit of an exaggeration. However, the renovations will significantly improve the lounge's design and quality. You'll have to wait a little longer until the beginning of 2017. Currently, there are freshly filled sandwiches as a small snack in the early afternoon, followed by a variety of hot dishes in the evening. Out of pure curiosity, I try a few things. The quality is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are only a few minutes left until boarding, but enough time to enjoy the view of Manhattan one last time and finish your drink in peace. Far away, on the cargo apron, you can see Iron Maiden's Ed Force One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines Business Class in the Boeing 777-300ER as AA100 from New York to London<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We walk just a few steps from the lounge to our gate. There, the first passengers are already lined up, waiting for departure. First Class is allowed to board first, then we follow. Our seat is in the larger section of the Business Class cabin. I settle into 7A for the upcoming night flight.<\/p>\n\n\n

We receive a friendly welcome. The usual aperitifs are available: water, orange juice, and champagne. The captain announces over the loudspeaker that our departure has been delayed slightly due to the favorable tailwinds. Since we would be arriving in London well ahead of schedule and landings aren't permitted until 6:00 a.m. local time, we linger at the gate. This leaves us with plenty of time to inspect the excellent business class seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reverse herringbone layout provides direct aisle access for every seat, offering maximum privacy and space. This is nice when traveling alone, but difficult when you're traveling with your wife and child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, this seat is brilliant! There's plenty of storage space, and the Bose Active Noise Cancelling headphones are already hanging in a small cabinet. A small bottle of water is also handy, which I find especially useful on a night flight. In addition to the two pre-installed positions (takeoff\/sleep), the seat offers a variety of adjustment options, and the table can also be adjusted in size as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your cell phone or laptop needs charging, you can easily connect it to the American, European, and English power outlets. A USB port is also available. The in-flight entertainment system can be controlled easily and logically using the remote control. The response time is very good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pushback begins, and our triple seven makes its way toward the runway. The massive GE-90s roar, providing tremendous thrust. The pilots turn left, and we climb to our cruising altitude over Long Island, continuing on toward Boston and northeastern Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside, the sun is slowly setting. My sundowner is a gin and tonic, accompanied by warm nuts in a porcelain bowl. Following the aperitif, the meal is served. American, like British Airways on the outbound flight, offers the option of choosing from five different main courses online before check-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For starters, American Airlines served Thai chicken with grilled pineapple and watermelon with mint dressing\u2014a very nice summer dish. I also had a mixed salad with artichokes and grilled tomatoes, along with feta cheese. The main course consisted of a lemon risotto, steamed halibut with saut\u00e9ed tomato and fennel, and broccoli. The meal was truly a delight; the salad was fresh and crisp, and the fish was succulent. For dessert, I was spoiled for choice: New York cheesecake or ice cream. After much hesitation, I opted for the ice cream. :-)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During dinner, I watched the movie "Everest." Wi-Fi was available throughout the flight, but I didn't use it. During the clearing, I was asked whether I wanted a hearty breakfast before landing or whether I'd rather sleep in as long as possible. Breakfast sounds good! Then it's time to see if the seat lives up to its promise. I make my bed for the night. With the earplugs from the amenity kit, I actually managed to get a good three hours of sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n

We're now over Ireland, and breakfast is being served. Again, we were given a choice. I opt for the fruit with yogurt and granola. Unfortunately, this also means we're about to land. The crew is already starting to clean up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

London is already within reach, as we begin the holdings. As the captain promised, we land at London Heathrow Airport way ahead of schedule. A far too short, wonderful flight comes to an end!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
