The hotel's own shuttle bus took us from the Grand Mercure Roxy to Terminal 1 of Singapore Changi International Airport without any traffic jams or delays. From there, we travelled to Langkawi on an AirAsia Economy Class Airbus A320-200.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Checking in at the AirAsia counter went smoothly. Unfortunately, we didn't pay attention to our boarding passes, so it wasn't until we went through security that we realized we'd been separated. Christin sat in seat 25A, and I was seated one behind her in seat 26A. A seat swap on the plane wasn't possible because the plane was fully booked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight AirAsia AK733 to Langkawi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the welcome address, the pilot announced a flight time of 1 hour and 55 minutes. We took off on time from runway 02C. The cruise flight at an altitude of 36,000 feet was uneventful. Occasionally, I caught a glimpse of mainland Malaysia below us through the thick cloud cover. The seat pitch in AirAsia's Airbus A320-200 is quite narrow, but manageable for the short flight, even with a height of 1.83 meters. Service is generally available for a fee. To enjoy a meal of your choice and save a few euros, it's worth reserving everything online when booking via the AirAsia website. Prices are moderate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The landing in Langkawi at around 12:10 p.m. was a bit bumpy. What surprised me was that the pilot had only extended the flaps a little. Was that the best decision?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The advantage of Langkawi's small provincial airport is that everything can be covered on foot. So we exited the A320-200 through the rear left door (2L) and were able to walk directly to the terminal building. According to airliners.net, Malaysia Airlines still offered a direct flight from London to Langkawi with a Boeing 747 in the early 2000s. How were so many passengers handled on the tarmac?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entering Malaysia felt like an eternity, even though several counters were staffed. It reminds you that you're in Asia, and efficiency isn't something you're born with. But eventually it was our turn, and our passports got a new stamp. After collecting our luggage, we met our chauffeur for The Danna Langkawi in the entrance hall. A great start to our stay at the 5-star hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
