After landing on the dream island of Langkawi, we were met at the airport by our personal shuttle service from The Danna Langkawi hotel. They took our luggage and escorted us to the car. During the ride, we were offered drinks and a cool towel to freshen up. Even though our journey from Singapore wasn't that long, something refreshing is always nice in this heat.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Arrival and check-in<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    From the airport, we drove about 20 minutes through small towns, partly through jungle and along the sea to the 5-star hotel The Danna Langkawi. Check-in was very friendly and quiet in a lounge area. As in other hotels, we were asked for our passports and a credit card, except that we didn't have to worry about anything else. No endless lines at the reception. While we waited, we were again offered a signature drink (various juices, cinnamon, and clove) with a cool towel. Very thoughtful. The wait was made especially pleasant by Nadja from the spa. She gave us a welcome massage that was wonderfully relaxing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What are the rooms like at The Danna Langkawi?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Opened in 2010, the hotel features 125 elegantly furnished rooms. Both the exterior and the rooms are designed in typical British colonial style. The hotel features a beautifully landscaped courtyard. Surrounding this courtyard are the various rooms and suites, bars and restaurants, as well as all the amenities of a 5-star hotel, spread over five floors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Danna Langkawi offers eight different room types: Merchant (mountain or courtyard view), Grand Merchant (mountain view), Marina (marina view), Viceroy (ocean view), Grand Viceroy (ocean view), and finally, three different types of suites. All rooms at the Danna Langkawi are decorated in the same style and have a balcony. The only minor differences are the size of the room (a suite is naturally larger), the view, and whether a coffee pod machine is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We were given a Viceroy room with a king-size bed. It's located on the top floor and offers a magnificent view of the bay, the sea, and the infinity pool from its private balcony. A dream! The 65-square-meter room is decorated with British colonial-style wooden furniture and has a very elegant feel. Amenities include a minibar, a coffee pod machine, a 42-inch LCD TV with a DVD player, and free Wi-Fi (acceptable speed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The large bathroom has two sinks, a bathtub, and a large rain shower with a wooden floor. We really liked the fact that the bathroom can be opened up to the room through sliding doors, making the whole room feel even larger. The bathroom is completely furnished with marble, and the tables and furniture are also covered with marble. Very classy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The only minor criticism of this lovely room is the slightly loud air conditioning. We also couldn't figure out how to turn off the ceiling fan individually. Maybe we didn't look hard enough. But you shouldn't reduce a room to its air conditioning, because the rest of it was simply perfect!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What is breakfast like at The Danna Langkawi?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    For dining, there are four different restaurants to choose from: The Planter's, Straits & Co, The Verandah, and the Pool Caf\u00e9. The Verandah is a cozy bar with live music in the evenings. Next door is The Drawing Room, featuring wines and cigars from around the world. The Planter's \u00e0 la carte restaurant serves, among other things, a lavish champagne breakfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Every morning we looked forward to the delicious breakfast. First, there's a menu with various egg dishes like eggs Benedict, omelets, or scrambled eggs, but sweet treats like pancakes or waffles are also available. The selection changes daily. All tea and coffee beverages are also brought directly to your table. A highlight is certainly the champagne served at breakfast. It turns out to be sparkling wine, but in English, the subtle distinction isn't so obvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In addition to the egg dishes served at your table, you can also help yourself to a lavish buffet. There's an Asian buffet (rice, noodles, curry, dim sum, sushi, etc.) and an intercontinental buffet with many different types of bread, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, lots of fruit, yogurt, jam, peanut butter, and much more. We were overjoyed, and everything tasted simply amazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If breakfast gets crowded, it won't be noticeable, as the rooms are individually partitioned and several large columns absorb the noise. A pianist plays to add to the atmosphere. At The Planter's restaurant, too, there are plenty of waiting staff to keep the buffet replenished and quickly remove used dishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What relaxation options does The Danna Langkawi offer?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The Danna Langkawi offers a variety of leisure activities for all weather and age groups. The library and billiards room invite you to linger\u2014the library, where guests can borrow books or leave their own, creates a particularly welcoming atmosphere. The games room offers board games, which are particularly popular in inclement weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Another highlight is the spa area on the top floor: With seven single and two double rooms, all beautifully designed and pleasantly air-conditioned, relaxation is palpable from the moment you enter. The view from up here over the island is impressive, and the changing rooms with showers and a steam sauna provide additional relaxation. Next door is the fitness area, which surprised us with its excellent equipment and high level of use by guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For families, there's a well-equipped kids' club with a playroom, game consoles, and all-day supervision. A babysitter can even be arranged in the evenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The white sandy beach in front of the hotel is clean and offers an exclusive atmosphere, as its location means there are rarely any other visitors. Towels are provided at every lounger, and Wi-Fi reaches all the way to the beach. The seawater is pleasantly warm, although slightly murky, as is typical in Langkawi. The private bathing area offers protection from jellyfish and allows for undisturbed swimming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The infinity pool, which at 51.2 meters is the largest in Langkawi, offers ample space and various areas, including a swimming area, a whirlpool, and shallow water. The staff is very attentive and always ensures clean loungers and fresh towels. The pool bar offers free cold water and, during happy hour starting at 5 p.m., cocktails and small snacks. During the day, the service staff also surprises guests with free snacks\u2014a small but welcome touch while relaxing in the sun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
