The Thai capital, Bangkok, is a shopper's paradise, where visitors of all budgets should find something to their liking in the countless malls. However, caution is advised when buying brand-name items!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Custom-made suits in Bangkok<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On our first day in Bangkok, we visited a tailor to get a quote for custom-made suits. The salesman presented his various fabrics and cuts to us over a cold beer. We were then able to choose a design from the current Giorgio Armani or Hugo Boss catalog. Overall, we were very satisfied with the service and ordered a package consisting of one suit, two shirts, and a tie for Bodo, and two suits, three shirts, and two ties for me. Together, we paid 20,000 Thai Baht. After a fitting, we will receive the suits in our suite on Thursday evening. lebua at State Tower<\/a> delivered. Then it's: "Suit up!"\u201e<\/p>\n\n\n

Since we weren't going into the 5-star hotel wearing outdoor trousers and a faded t-shirt hotel<\/a> Since we wanted to move in, we bought new clothes at the MBK Mall near the National Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wat Saket (Golden Mount)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After a bit of shopping, we then made our way to Wat Saket, also known as the "Golden Mount". The golden mountain is artificially built up to 79 meters and crowned with a golden chedi.<\/p>\n\n\n

We reached the summit via 318 steps and several smaller platforms. Here, there are various bells which were rung for good luck by both Thais and ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n

Several small Buddhas and shrines are located in the area surrounding the temple hill. In the courtyard, we encountered dozens of Buddhist worshippers. Many carried gifts such as flower arrangements or tea sets. We had the impression that everyone was waiting for a special event. Unfortunately, the announcements over the loudspeakers were only in Thai and therefore not very helpful. Suddenly, everyone fell silent, and a very old man was wheeled in in a wheelchair. While the worshippers present rose to pray, the man took a seat on a throne-like chair on the altar. Before the ceremony continued, however, we left the building out of respect.<\/p>\n\n\n

Wat Benchamabophit (Marble Temple)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We ended the day with a visit to Wat Benchamabophit, also known as the Marble Temple by tourists due to its architecture. This Buddhist temple is considered one of the most beautiful in Thailand and is a major attraction in Bangkok.<\/p>\n\n\n

The white, partly pinkish marble glistened in the sun, making a very magnificent impression on us. We hadn't seen such a remarkable temple on our trip so far. This is probably one of the reasons why the complex was nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n\n\n
