The Scandinavian airline SAS operates its own lounge at various airports in the USA. On our way back from a short trip to New York City, we visited the SAS Lounge Newark before the late afternoon rush. In this lounge review, I will share my experiences and impressions of the amenities and food and beverage offerings, and whether a visit is worthwhile.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Where is the SAS Lounge in Newark?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The SAS Lounge Newark is located in Terminal B of Newark Airport, in gate area 60\u201368. In this case, the gate information is crucial, as security at Newark Airport is located before each gate area, not at the terminal entrance as is usually the case. Gates 60\u201368 are used by all Star Alliance partners except United Airlines and Air Canada. After security, the entrance to the SAS Lounge is on the left side of the corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Who has access to the SAS Lounge Newark?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    This lounge is operated by SAS itself and is primarily available to its premium class passengers, including SAS Business and SAS Plus passengers. These passengers are permitted to use the lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. Travelers with Star Alliance Gold status or a high status in SAS's own frequent flyer program, EuroBonus, can use the lounge before departure and also bring one guest booked on the same flight. Thanks to a partnership with American Express, American Express Platinum Card holders are also entitled to use the lounge. According to a notice at the lounge entrance, Emirates Airline passengers are also permitted to use the lounge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Due to the numerous access points, the lounge can get very crowded during peak times, and access may be restricted. This has happened to me before in the SAS Lounge in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What are the amenities of the SAS Lounge in Newark?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Upon entering the SAS Lounge in Newark, I was immediately struck by the beautiful and typically Scandinavian design. The lounge has several areas with comfortable seating, offering passengers ample space to relax and unwind before their flight. The restaurant area is located directly after the entrance. Here, there are long, round tables with rather uncomfortable black metal chairs without proper backrests. A particularly nice touch, in my opinion, was the selection of different dipping sauces and condiments placed in the center of each table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Beyond the restaurant area lies the main lounge area, furnished with comfortable upholstered armchairs and small stools. Towards the rear of the lounge is a quieter seating area with upholstered armchairs, sofas, and high chairs. There is also a telephone booth and a small office where one can work undisturbed. Almost all seating areas have power outlets, and free high-speed Wi-Fi is also available. The view of the apron is somewhat limited, as the lounge is surrounded by a corridor used by arriving passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What food and drinks are available in the SAS Lounge Newark?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    We visited the SAS Lounge Newark in the early afternoon. The buffet consisted of two sections. The left section offered cold cuts, cheese, various cheese preparations, and vegetables in a sort of salad bar. The right section had French fries, cookies, rolls, and a warming tray for the only hot dish in the lounge. According to the small sign, lasagna was supposed to be available today. Unfortunately, the tray was empty. Overall, the selection is somewhat limited, but comparable to the SAS lounges in Copenhagen.Lounge review<\/a>) or Stockholm (Lounge review<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The selection of drinks in the SAS Lounge was comparatively better. The non-alcoholic beverages included the usual soft drinks, but also water with fresh cucumber or orange, juices, and coffee from a fully automatic machine. The alcoholic beverage selection consisted of basic spirits, wine, and two local beers on tap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The staff in the SAS Lounge Newark were very friendly, and the tables in the restaurant area were cleared and cleaned quickly. However, we were also in the lounge at a very quiet time, so there wasn't much for the staff to do in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
