The cheap offer was only valid from the Swedish capital, Stockholm. So, the evening before, I flew from Berlin-Tegel Airport to Stockholm with SAS. Since we're getting a bit too old to sleep on some bench in the airport building, we stayed at the Radisson Blu SkyCity. The hotel has the great advantage of being located directly in the airport building, so everything is quite close by. The next morning, after a quick breakfast in the SAS Gold Lounge Stockholm (Lounge review<\/a>), at 07:55 from Stockholm to Copenhagen.<\/p>\n

SAS Go in the Airbus A340-300 \u2013 Boarding SK935<\/h2>\n

After our arrival in Copenhagen, we headed straight for the SAS Gold Lounge Copenhagen (Lounge review<\/a>After a relaxing time in the lounge, with a somewhat disappointing food selection, it was time to head to gate C28. We went through the automated passport control, answered the typical questions for travelers to the USA briefly and concisely, and sat down in the waiting area right by the gate. Boarding began just a few minutes later, and as status passengers, we were allowed to board after the families with small children. Fortunately, SAS is very meticulous about adhering to the boarding groups.<\/p>\n

SAS Go in the Airbus A340-300 cabin<\/h2>\n

The Airbus A340-300 has two large economy class seating areas with a total of 179 seats. Every row, except the last four, has a 2-4-2 seating configuration. The light wood on the partitions complements the grey fabric seats very well.<\/p>\n

SAS Go in the Airbus A340-300 \u2013 Seat<\/h2>\n

The seats in the SAS Go are upholstered in a durable grey fabric and are approximately 44 centimeters wide. While this makes them narrow, the good padding ensures a comfortable seating experience.<\/p>\n

There is a universal power outlet under every pair of seats, which must therefore be shared with your neighbor. However, each passenger has access to a USB port located to the right of the in-flight entertainment monitor.<\/p>\n

Even during boarding, a bottle of water, inexpensive in-ear headphones, a pillow, and a blanket were already waiting on every SAS Go seat. For economy class, that's not bad service!<\/p>\n

The seatback monitor for the in-flight entertainment system was sufficiently large, offered good picture quality, and the touchscreen responded to light touches. The selection of movies and TV series was mediocre. In addition, there were video games, music, and an animated flight map.<\/p>\n

SAS Go in the Airbus A340-300 \u2013 Service<\/h2>\n

Unfortunately, it took ages for the first service to begin. About an hour after takeoff, a beverage service was finally offered. This was our only way, as SAS Go passengers, to get a complimentary non-alcoholic drink (besides water, coffee, and tea). Additional drinks had to be purchased with a credit card. And the prices weren't exactly cheap: a simple Carlsberg (0.33 liters), for example, cost \u20ac5, while a soft drink of the same size was only \u20ac3. Besides drinks, snacks and other food items could also be purchased from the flight attendants. These, too, weren't exactly inexpensive, with, for example, a small bag of potato chips costing \u20ac3. However, water was always available for self-service in the rear galley during our flight.<\/p>\n

Lunch was served approximately two hours after takeoff from Copenhagen. Anyone expecting a selection of hot dishes on SAS Go will be disappointed. Vegetarian or other special meals must be pre-ordered at least 24 hours before departure. The meal served\u2014beef in a chocolate-infused sauce, mashed potatoes, and crisp vegetables\u2014wasn't bad at all. The mashed potatoes were simply seasoned with a bit too much mustard. It was accompanied by a mixed salad, bread rolls, and for dessert, a caramel pudding on chocolate crumble.<\/p>\n

An hour before landing in San Francisco, another snack was served. This consisted of a Swedish pita with cheese and an apple-gooseberry juice.<\/p>\n
