Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class from Dubai to Istanbul
The Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class was one of the first Premium Economy on the airline market. Thanks to an upgrade, we were able to test the premium cabin and service on the short flight from Dubai to Istanbul.
Drive from Abu Dhabi to Dubai
Around 18 o’clock we made our way back from Abu Dhabi the 140 km to Dubai. We wanted to visit the Dubai Mall once again to watch the famous water fountains.
Since the locals had a weekend today, there was an absolute traffic chaos at the mall. The multi-storey car park was overcrowded and it only proceeded at walking pace and with the aggressive driving style of the locals sometimes really critical. In road traffic, the law of the jungle still applies. Fortunately we found a parking lot after 60 minutes. Due to this time delay we could unfortunately only watch one show.
The car rental return at Dubai airport is in our opinion quite chaotic organized. There are no signage and no further indications. But we still knew where we had picked up the car, on parking level A2, and so we tried to settle the whole thing. I find the solution that the rental stations are located in an outdoor area much better. After exactly 1234 kilometers we handed in the small rental car. He had suffered a lot under us. :)
Check-in at Dubai Airport
As we had expected much more traffic, which was not that bad, we arrived at the check-in with a lead time of three hours. I had already seen on the Internet that our flight home was very well booked. The gentleman at the Business Class counter destroyed our actual tickets and after a short phone call he told us that we would be upgraded to the better Comfort Class today. Yipeeee!!! It’s the first time I’ve gotten an upgrade since I got Star Alliance Gold status. I already knew the Comfort Class from earlier flights, after Turkish Airlines had a price error in 2011 from Hong Kong to Los Angeles. So we were pleased about the better available space and the comfortable seats with reclining function.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge (Dubai)
We made our way to the departure area and looked for the Lufthansa Senator Lounge. The lounge, which Turkish Airlines uses in Dubai, only wanted to allow one person, according to the employee and my invitation. In the rather small Lufthansa Senator Lounge Christin was no problem as a guest. Since the Lufthansa pilots were on strike at the moment, and thus many flights were cancelled, it was fortunately quite empty. Only Swiss flew to Zurich and Austrian Airlines to Vienna. When the passengers for these machines were gone, we sat alone in the lounge. So I could use the time to take some pictures of the lounge.
The food offer was clearly arranged but completely sufficient. I found the Indian curry dish particularly tasty. Drinks were also available in plenty of variety. After a week without a tasty beer, a cool wheat beer was already a fine thing.
Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class – Flight Turkish Airlines TK761 to Istanbul
Our flight TK761 to Istanbul was extremely delayed. Actually we were supposed to take off at 02:35, but at that time the Boeing 777-300ER (TK-JJE) had just landed. Finally we took off only shortly before 04:00 o’clock. We didn’t get much out of the flight. We put our seats in the back, raised the footrests and slept almost the whole flight. The service offered on this night flight did not match my experience on other flights in Comfort Class. We were disappointed that there was no amenity kit and also the food was not so extensive. If you want to read more about the Comfort Class, take a look at our trip report with Turkish Airlines from Hong Kong to Istanbul.
Already shortly before landing we noticed that some passengers became quite restless. Apparently many of them had connecting flights, which were now quite close. The first passengers already arrived in the front galley during the landing approach, to be the first right away. Shortly after landing, where we had not even rolled out, the remaining passengers jumped up. The stewardess had a lot of work to do to get the pack back on the seats. But because of the masses she finally gave it up. I’ve never seen anything like it. Unfortunately for the impatient people we got an off-site parking space. So getting up early did not bring any advantage, as we all had to get on the same bus.
