Rainy day in Singapore

Marina Bay Sands (HDR)

We discovered a Carl's Jr. in Marina Square. I know the fast food chain from the USA and I think they have one of the best there burgers of the world (of course next to In-N-Out, Shake Shack etc.). We went a little overboard when choosing the menu, opting for "Large". After a large portion of fries and what felt like 2 liters of coke, we felt a little nauseous. But it was delicious!

Unfortunately the weather didn't get any better, even though we had eaten up. Up until now we had experienced in the tropics that rain usually passes within half an hour. This is not the case for Singapore, at least not today. So we embarked on a journey into the shopping underground of Singapore. The individual malls around Marina Bay are all connected to each other with tunnels. This is how we spent our time underground with hundreds of thousands of other tourists and locals. It's also worth noting that we're in the middle of an anime convention. We were already surprised when we met the first Asian disguised as a robot on the escalator. In the exhibition center we found a lot of other elaborately disguised anime heroes.

Around 5 p.m. it finally stopped raining and we were finally able to get back into the daylight. Singapore's skyline offers a good mix of old and new architecture. In the foreground the traditional Fullerton Hotel and behind it the skyscrapers. One of the tallest buildings is the UOB Plaza One at 280 meters. Also near the Fullerton building is the Merlion statue. The water-spewing mythical creature erected by Singapore's tourism authority in 1960 has become a symbol of the city.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Singapore at night

It's on the opposite bank Marina Bay Sands Casino and Resort. Opened in 2010, the building consists of three towers, each with 55 floors, which are connected by a roof terrace. The structure reminded us of a ship or a zeppelin.

Licht- & Lasershow „Wonderfull“

At 8 p.m. we watched the free light and water show in Marina Bay, which lasted about 15 minutes. This is hosted by the Marina Bay Sands Hotel every evening, weather permitting. We really liked the combination of lasers, film sequences on water vapor walls and music. The spectacle can be seen from every bank side. But the best sound is only available directly on the forecourt of the hotel. I personally find the show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas even more impressive.

Esplanade Park

Before we take the subway (MRT) back to Hotel fuhren, machten wir noch einen Abstecher zum Esplanade Park.
